This is a great freezer for the size and price range I was looking at. It's the biggest I could find for under $200, and has plenty of space for the extra turkeys I plan to buy this Thanksgiving season. I bought this to make sure I had enough freezer room for when my family comes out to visit this holiday season, and this was a great purchase to meet that need. The cord is nice and long, though it's coiled up in the box, so it will take some time to straighten out -- just make sure not to force it straight too quickly, as that can damage the interior of the wire. The interior of the freezer is well-designed with a little 'shelf' area over the motor that is perfectly square instead of a dome, so you can easily store stuff on top of it. There's also a small wire basket inside that hangs from the interior lip of the freezer. The only complaint is that the lid doesn't have a 'soft close' so you have to lower it carefully or you'll end up slamming the lid. A lot of other reviewers complained about their freezer being damaged in shipping -- I didn't have that issue. The freezer came well-packed with plenty of protective foam pieces around it. My freezer is in perfect shape, and working like a charm. I suspect that Igloo may have taken the feedback and improved their packaging. The freezer is relatively lightweight and easy to move -- especially if you have a small dolley. All the weight is on one end, so if you put that on wheels, you'll be good to go. The biggest challenge unpacking it was getting it off the cardboard and foam base in the box because there were little wells for the freezer's feet. The top of the box came off easily once I cut the packing ribbon. (It just slides up and off -- though I didn't realize that until I had already cut down the side!)
Reading some of the reviews we were not sure what to expect but we decided to give it a try because it was the perfect size for the two of us. I am sure even people with small families would find it a good size. We are storing mainly meat as we have a smaller one in the kitchen below our fridge that holds other frozen foods. I enjoy buying in quantity. I purchased 2 sweater size plastic containers from $ General so I would have more sections for separating the meats. With the bottom part of the freezer, the one basket and the storage containers I have a section for: red meat, pork, seafood and chicken,, plus a little extra room if I need it.
I bought my Igloo freezer from Wal-mart a few weeks ago. I replaced the freezer I had since 2001 - the old one had lots of ice build up. The Igloo freezer works great. The freezer was delivered to my door in a protected box. I opened the box and was going to plug it in and then read the owner's manual. It recommended waiting 24 hours for the freezer to settle so the coolant is on the bottom. I kept one of the freezer baskets from my old one and the new one had one too - so now I have two. I like how the lights on the side tell you the freezer is working too.
I purchased my first Igloo through Amazon. Even though 50% of the reviews say it arrives damaged. Lo and behold mine arrived damaged. Send it back immediately. I purchased the same igloo 7.1 ft.³ from Walmart. I picked I picked up the freezer at Walmart so I could check it out before I took delivery . The freezer was an excellent condition, only had it for a week, So far it works perfect. Make sure you allowed to sit for 24 hours before plugging it in. Then set temperature dial to "on" for two hours Then set the temperature to 4 for six hours.
Bought this freezer to store ice at work for the yard people...nice size, working great (only have had it a week), was delivered earlier than expected ...the only problem was it was delivered damaged....the trim around the door is broken, but because it's a work freezer, don't really care. If it was for home, I would have complained.
Freezer arrived one day late. there was one dent (on the front of freezer) however so far so good. because i was out of town, the freezer had a week to "settle". got to correct temp quickly and moved frozen items in. i consider this a good purchase for the price
My only complaint is that the power cord comes out of the side.. right in the middle of the side actually. It looks terrible. I had to move things around to find a space where that would be hidden. I found that to be strange. It seems to work well though.. plenty of storage space.
I needed a new chest freezer and gave this one a try. Easy setup is you follow the instructions. Unfortunately even after that it isnt even as cold as my refridgerator let alone a freezer. I am trying to figure out how to return this now. The manufacturer doesnt respond to emails nor ever answers the phone. Has a 1 yr warranty from manufacturer that they intend not to honor. DO NOT BUY!
It hasn't worked since the day it was delivered. It was exactly what I was wanting however if it worked it would be nice. Will be returning this item.
I read the reviews and hoped all would turn out for the best on my order, but I was disappointed. The Chest was obviously repackaged as the box had already been cut open, and it came damaged with a noticeable dent on the top front edge. Bothersome as we had to load it up and return it to our local Wal-Mart ourselves.
