First time buyer and user. We had a bathroom sink we had tried for months to get unstopped and stay unstopped. When i came across this product, i was thinking this has to work, nothing else will. Omg we hit the jackpot ❤️ didnt take no time at all my sick was clear and stayed cleared. Staying clear is key!
I bought this about 2 years ago when I first got into soap-making and I still have 1/2 of the bottle left. Soaps made with lye tend to have a high ph because of the alkaline in lye. I'm still experimenting with my formulations to make the soap more nourishing and less stripping. The coffee colored soap you see in the pic is my best batch so far (might be because of the high concentration of olive oil). The white soap was the worst batch which was my first batch, lol. I found that's it was because of the high concentration of coconut oil made it too cleansing. I use this for soap making only (using < 2oz per batch) even though drain opener lye is technical grade (the lowest grade). Using tech grade for soap-making is actually quite common, so I chose to buy this one which was the cheapest one. Lye grade: technical ➡️ laboratory➡️ food Supposedly the difference is the processes they go through to ensure purity. Some say it's impossible for even food grade lye to be completely free of metal contamination. I never used this for drain cleaning. The fact that none of the hardware stores carry lye (but have it online) makes it obvious that lye is not a popular solution for drain cleaning. Prior to ordering this online, I went to get it locally from Home Depot and the sales guy asked me, “What type of pipe are you using it for?” You should have seen his face when I told him I was going to use it for soap-making.
The pipes in my 24 year old log cabin were beginning to run very slow from years of gunk accumulating in the pipes. Conventional pipe cleaning chemicals and a plunger only made it worse by pushing the gunk deep into my pipes or the sewer system. After multiple attempts and sucking out all standing water in the drain pipe via a wet/dry vacuum it finally cleared the drain. You must wear acid proof gloves and a face mask. I used my motorcycle helmet I would not use it in the drain that has a lot of grease as lye and grease will clump together to form soap.
I use this for cold process soap. I have been very successful with it. I used it for my bathroom drain, and I'm surprised that it got rid of all that NASTY BLACK GUNK! I am so impressed.
I have been using this to make soap. My only complaint is my local Walmart does not carry it in store, so have to order online. Not only does this lye work to make soap have also used it to clear clogged bathtub drain and slow kitchen sink.
Bought one of these to try my luck at soap...It worked well and I ordered 2 the next time. It works just fine and the price is at least half the amount of other lye products. I just came on the website to order more. Only once I had an orange spot in a bar of soap...Totally my fault. Since then Ive seen ppl pour their lye water through a strainer. But mine was due to high olive oil content I think. Anyway, great product for soap making... Good luck!
This is my go to! When my adult kids visit they always clog my toilet this clears it right out every time! I do use more than recommended but let me tell you it really works!
I've used this lye for cold process soap making two times now and it works great! It's nice being able to pick it up at the local Walmart and not having to order it. The price is great also.
If I could give a zero stars I would. This is what I came home to… terrible packaging terrible packing… and to top it off the mail thought it would be a good idea to cut open and spray what I'm assuming is water in the box!! Tops not secure foil seals were not sealed. No care was taken in packing.
Total garbage- do not buy! We used it as directed and our slow drain became completely blocked. My husband took the drain apart and discovered it had melted in the U bend and fully blocked it up, it's like a brick of soap. If I could give 0 stars, I would.
