After my husband put this bookrack together, I'm impressed with it. I wanted a bookrack of this style, but similar items from PBK are more expensive. The finish is a lot smoother and it is overall a lot sturdier than what I expected by reading some other reviews. It is also a plus to have it shipped site to store for free. Overall, a good buy...unique shelf for any room!
I searched for this type of bookcase for months, never really finding the right sized product or price point. I stumbled upon this one and checked the sight daily waiting for it to come back in stock online. I'm so glad I did!!! I love Walmart's site to store option because it saves you so much on shipping. This bookcase did come in quite a few pieces, but even a novice could assemble it with ease. It looks great( exactly like pricier options available online), and seems to be very sturdy. I love it, and so does my book-loving 2 year old son!
I've been looking for a product like this for a long time and you really can't beat the price. PBK has one similar for more than two times the amount. I love that the books face outward which really encourage my little ones to pick out a book. It doesn't hold all of our books but plenty of them. I'd say I have about 30 on there now and it could definitely fit more. I get compliments on it all the time. Unfortunately, I also had an issue with one of the shelves separating during shipping like the reviewer did below. Also, it only comes with 2 brackets to anchor it to the wall. I added 2 more of my own because I did fear that it could be pulled out from the wall if someone tried to climb it. However, I am very satisfied with this bookcase.
The box arrived really beat up, but it was padded well and the bookshelf was in perfect condition. I put it together by myself and it took about an hour. I had been looking for this type of bookshelf forever but did not want to pay a PBK price for it. This was a perfect alternative and it is adorable in my son's room.
I really like this bookshelf, as it's a great value and it fits so many books. It's great to display the books and have your little one select the books they want to read. It's also amazing to see how much a little one can comprehend and bring certain books to you that you ask for. We had to modify the product slightly for chair rail, and it was fairly easy to do.
Overall, this product serves its purpose for holding books and it looks nice. However, it feels like it's made from cheap wood and some parts were a little damaged when it arrived. For example, the wooden pieces that were already glued together by the manufacturing company came apart and we had to fix it ourselves. Also, we have a baseboard that doesn't allow the bookcase to be flush against the wall so books can get caught behind the bottom shelf. We just got it so we don't know how long it will hold up.
The one fault that I have with this product is that the shelves are nailed together. They separated in shipping and my husband had to screw them back together.
The onyl real issue I had was that a piece of product was broken. It does include woodglue for assembly and the broken piece was something that came unglued and pulled from its tacks so I was able to just glue it back together and avaid a return. I am surprised how hard it is to find a book shelf like this. I guess the price was ok. Some if it still seems a little flimsy.
The box arrived in rough shape - holes throughout & bent corners. No surprise 1 shelf was broken & several places were scratched. Suggest picking up a can of super glue & some white paint when you purchase this book case. Once we fixed those issues - no complaints.
This is a very poorly made bookcase. I was actually very disappointed because this type of bookcase is very difficult to find. I purchased 2; one of the boxes was very damaged. I quickly checked the contents on the damaged end at the store and it seemed fine. However, when my husband took the rest of the contents out of the box, it was very severly damaged. Each shelf has a lip (so the books don't slide off). The lip is tacked with about 3 tacks and glued on. EVERY lip was either loose or completely broken off. There is no way to repair this because the blunt end of the tack is actually inside the wood (actually wood-like substance). It also caused the paint to chip all around that area. We thought that this occurred because the box was damaged. However, our second box was perfect and the bookcase STILL had all of the same damage with the exact same parts. We returned ours and didn't feel this bookcase was worth another try. Even if we could procure one undamaged, it seems likely it would break in a short period of time. Very disappointing! Think about this before you have to lug the big box back to the store!!
