As a Spark Reviewer I have received some pretty awesome products to test and review upon. But once in a while I come upon an item that is in my opinion above and beyond in its catagory. That is where the Janome MOD-15 15-Stitch Easy-to-Use Sewing Machine falls. As an women who enjoys sewing I have had the pleasure of using many different machines. This Janome Easy - to - Use- Sewing Machine is not only that but so much more. While it is for beginners, meaning its very basic in its approach of setting up the power supply and peddle, it is so nice and easy to thread and the instruction booklet it very easy to read and understand. It is very detailed in its approach to make you familiar with the machine itself which for a beginner is a great thing, and it also is easy to understand the direct approach of how to get you up and running so to speak. I had recently cut down 84" curtains that were made of a somewhat silky material which can at times be tricky to work with. I needed to then hem them to be 36" in length and they were 54" in width. A somewhat large piece of material to be working with. Yet the Janome MOD-15 15-Stitch Easy-to-Use Sewing Machine performed beautifully. While I am an avid sewer, I can honestly say the this machine would be a really wonderful machine not only for beginners but also for someone such as myself who now that I am getting up in age and need to carry a light machine , which this is, it has a handle and performs far and above what was expected. My kitchen curtains came out beautiful and I am very pleased with this product. I highly recommend.
This review is for the Janome MOD-15 15-Stitch Easy-to-Use Sewing Machine. I haven't had a sewing machine in years. The Janome MOD-15 is the perfect size to get started with again. It is a solid, but lightweight mid-size sewing machine. It fits easily on my computer table and with the convenient carrying handle, is easy to move around for use and storage. The instruction booklet that comes with it (also available online as pdf download) is clearly written with lots of pictures so that it was easy to quickly figure out how to create a bobbin, thread the machine, and get started sewing. It has a convenient drop-in bobbin and a light. I tested the straight and zigzag stiches to get a feel for the machine. The stitch length and width are adjustable. The machine has 15 stitches available including stretch stitch. The machine runs very smoothly and the motor is not loud. The foot pedal is a substantial size and has a nice touch for going slow or fast. It has a little cubby to store accessories and when you pull the cubby out, it becomes a free-arm to easily stitch sleeve or pant hems. The machine comes with a standard/zigzag foot, a zipper foot, a blind-hem foot and a sliding buttonhole foot. It also comes with spare needles and bobbins. The machine uses standard size parts—I was able to use a bobbin in it from a sewing machine I gave away years ago. The machine weighs approximately 14 lbs. and is 14.5" long x 6" wide x 10" high. The pictures I've included show the machine and a sample of the stitching along with my first finished project. This sewing machine is a great machine to consider if you're looking for a light-duty or first sewing machine.

This is a pretty good sturdy sewing machine. The sound of the motor sounds nice and smooth, and it glides with ease when I step on the foot pedal. It comes with all the tools you need to start out, and a manual very easy to understand. It has a top loader for the bobbin, (see picture) for one easy step. It has all the features of a professional sewing machine. It's not a toy. but it's not industrial. If you want to take the hem up on your jeans just make the adjustments needed maybe change the needle, depending on the thickness of your material. It does have more than one needle and many other features zig zag stitches, button holes and many other types. Everything is pretty clear and easy to learn and use. However, it didn't come in a box you can keep it in for storage. It was delivered in a big box with the machine surround snugly in the styrofoam to keep it safe for shipping. , Other than that I have no complaints.
This machine is very lightweight in it's ability to tackle mending and repairs. If you are a casual sewist it's great, but to sew a wide range of projects including heavier jobs, you will need a machine that can do it. I would recommend a Janome Mystyle 100.
Janome is the only brand sewing machine I will ever own. I have a larger expensive machine but have recently acquired two lighter easier to use models. The Janome MOD-15 15-Stitch Easy-to-Use Sewing Machine is the perfect machine for a beginner and those who just need to do some quick stitching and simple crafting. This machine was shipped in sturdy packaging and arrived in perfect condition. The instructions were easy to understand and the illustrations were clear and simple. I had this machine up and running in very little time at all. It is small and light weight but it produces amazing stitches. I only gave it four stars because some parts are made of plastic that I feel might be less durable than if they were made out of metal. The bobbin winder, thread spool, presser feet and foot pedal should be handled with care. The thread spool does not fold down like on my more expensive machine and could be a problem with transporting. Adjusting the length, width and tension on this machine is as easy as it gets. I started a project that required sewing through three layers of cotton and the stitching was even and perfect. No pulling or bunching. I am very impressed with how powerful this little machine is both for the price and size. Whether you are sewing in a zipper, making button holes, or using one of the embroidery stitches, you won't be disappointed. I am looking forward to crafting with my grandchildren and teaching them how to use this great little workhorse. I have showed this machine to a couple friends and they were impressed as well. I recommend it highly.
I just love this machine. I threaded it, wow. The stitching is very easy to get use to as far as all the different type of one's that you have to chose from. Also very easy to carry from room to room. It is not that heavy. And it has a pretty colorful patter on the front of the machine. Nice product.
