I am a Canadian who has lived, for many years, in Northern Quebec and Northern Ontario where there are swarms of nasty blackflies in May and/or June, and millions of mosquitoes throughout most of the summer. I have been using this product for over 55 years -- my mother used to spray it on me when I was a child. (I am now 61 yrs. old, and still always take "Band-Aid" with me when I travel.) It used to be available in Canada under the name "Rhuli cream"/ "Rhuli Spray". Then it seemed to have disappeared off the Canadian market. After researching on Google, I found that the exact same product is now under the name: " Ban-Aid". I was extremely happy to have found this product once again. So why is it so wonderful? As a person who has lived in the Laurentian mountains north of Montreal, and in northern Ontario, I am all too aware of pesty blackflies that attack me in swarms in the months of May and June. Although I usually wear a "bug shirt" (like a bee keeper), the little blackflies sometimes still get me on the ankles. Meanwhile, my husband is allergic to mosquito bites! This wonderful product immediately takes away the itch and brings swelling down. Besides containing calamine lotion, "Band-Aid" also has Benzocaine in it -- which acts as a local aesthetic on your skin....making the itch stop immediately (almost like freezing it!) "Band-Aid" also works on itchy rashes from poison ivy -- my husband could vouch for that! Finally, it works really well on sun rashes -- that is a rash that one can get from being exposed, for the first time in a season, to too much strong sunlight at a time. This product is so wonderfu, that every time I go to Florida (which is twice a year), I buy 6 or 7 cans of "Bandaid-Aid" at Walmart and bring it back in the car to Canada. I actually give the cans to my friends as gifts! The men who love to fish up north especially appreciate my gift. Let's face it, whether you wear a bug shirt or spray yourself with OFF, some mosquitoes or blackflies will still manage to bite you. That's when Band-Aid comes to the rescue!
I'm very allergic to poison ivy/oak and so, unfortunately, is my son. We came back from camping a couple of weeks ago and my son started showing signs of poison oak rash. We immediately cleaned the area with Tecnu and applied Benadril ointment. Although his rash was bad enough to finally get a prescription for prednesone, the Band-Aid Calamine spray was the only over-the-counter product that gave him any relief.
walmart online is one of the few places left to get this item. It beats the liquid calamine any day.
Works so-so for poison ivy rashes, etc. The coolness is soothing but only for a short time. the spray tends to go quickly too.
