My toddler got this for his 1st birthday & it took him about 3 months or so to really get into it. He now loves to hit on it & sometimes will say a b c d when its on the alphabet mode. I think it's a fun learning toy & it's VERY durable!! He's dropped it, rolled it & beat on it w/ the LeapFrog Maraccas (ALSO a great product!!) & it works wonderfully!
My baby is just 7 months old and now able to sit up. She loves this drum and it will help her learn the alphabet and the way the characters of the alphabet light up is great. The song can get a little old, but for the price paid it's a great learning tool.
This drum is such a good toy. My brother bought it for my daughter on her first Christmas, she was less than a month old. But she started to play with it around 4 months old. She really likes it a lot. She loves to drum on it and watch the letters and shapes change. She also will turn it on it's side and roll it to crawl after it and it sings to her while she does that, she thinks that is so cool.
I bought this for my son when he was 6 months old and is now 16 months. At the beginning he did not pay too much attention to it. He now sits there and stares at the letters and listens to the alphabet. I love the fact it is in Spanish and English because we are from a bilingual home.
My daughter has had this toy since she was about 6 months old, She is now 19 months and I just now had to replace the batteries.. She loved this toy, not so much now that she is older. Now she likes to sit on it. But she used to bang on it all the time. And she would dance and clap. She liked to watch it light up. It has worn very well, She also liked to throw it. And it still works perfectly. I plan on saving it for the one I am pregnant with now. I think it was my daughters favorite toy. Its like brand new still, especially, seeing as how all of her other 'electronic' toys mess up in 2 months or less. The volume controls are nice, the high setting is loud, I keep it on the low setting.
I bought this toy for my daugher a few months ago when she was almost 7 months old, and she loves it! This is one of the few toys that actually keeps her interest. She usually chooses a paper towel roll over most toys, but this one she really loves. The song gets stuck in your head, though!
Well I have a 2yr old I bought him this toy when he was 1. He likes beating on it but the volume of the toy is too low. He'd play with it on and off. He like things that make loud noises so this didnt really catch his attention. But i would recommend this toy b/c it is bilingual and it's has fun songs for the baby.
My daughter received this for christmas when she was 9 months old. I thought she would enjoy it because of the drum feature--she is in a music & movement class and likes things that make noise. Well she wasn't interested in it. She is now 17 months old and still doesn't play with it. I'm hoping as we begin to teach the alphabet she will start to play with it. I think the 6 month age recommendation is a stretch. Other toys would encourage more development in your child.
My issue with this is that when my son hits the drum it makes a barely auditable noise. It's especially hard to hear the drum over the music that it plays. We got this toys about 4 months ago and my son has played with it twice. He has more fun banging on my pots then this toy drum.
I have to admit that I don't really enjoy this toy. The concept is good, but the execution poor. My daughter mostly enjoys sliding the buttons back and forth on the sides of the toy. She will occasionally hit the drum a few times, but this toy has not kept her attention for more than 1 minute and this is the child who can play with stacking cups for 30 minutes at a time. I believe the true failure of the product is to make the cause and effect obvious for the child. The child can hit the drum, but the sound effect reaction is either slow or so quiet that the child cannot really tell that her pounding on the drum causes sounds to occur. There are so many great toys on the market, but I can't say this is a winner in my opinion. I would recommend spending your money on something else.
