I ordered the hatrack for delivery to my local store. Not paying shipping is a real plus. Putting the hat rack together is simple enough. However, 4 small wood screws have to be put in the top ring of the umbrella portion of the stand. I had to drill the holes out with a small drill bit to get the screws in to the hard wood. Some people probably don't have the tools or knowledge to do that. Otherwise, The experience from order to final use was great.
This is a wonderful coat rack. The wood look is really nice since it is darker in color. The feet keep this coat rack very steady with it's wide base. Can hold many coats and instead of putting umbrellas in the base we just place our purses on the ledge.
It would help if the Walmart webpage would say what tools are needed. Halfway into asssembly I find I need a tiny Phillips screwdriver for the little tiny screws that attach 4 metal braces to the top wood ring of the umbrella stand. I have only a tiny straight screwdriver to use. The screws were so small I could not manage them and forgot that hard-to-manage screws should go in at an angle. I tried to center the little screws and 3 ended up going half way in, giving the braces a lot of play between the screwhead and the wood piece, the 4th screw I remembered to screw in at an angle so that brace is flush with the wood. Then the screwholes on the wood did not match up with the screwholes in the braces. I should have seen that coming and tried to make all 4 screwholes take up some of the error. Instead I had only a part of the 4th screwhole to use for the little screw, just adding to the difficulty of managing the tiny screws. But the coat tree is up and really elegant and beautiful, and so functional. All my grab and go clothes are on the coat rack, and my life got a lot easier and my apartment looks more like home. Coat tree adds old world country charm to my home. I just hope it stays up given my struggle with the tiny screws!
When I was assembling this item, I inserted the screw through the base into the bottom of the tree pole. The bottom of the pole had a threaded metal insert in it, which popped out and could not be used again. I had to return this item for a sturdier one.
The coatree came with no instructions or paperwork what so ever. So I started to put it together using the picture on the box. As I was puttingit together I started to notice things missing, specifically, several different screws. I called walmart.com (since that's where I ordered it) and they told me I would have to contact the manufacturer myself. They said they could not find a phone number so they gave me an email address. I also tried on my own to find a phone number for the manufacturer but was unsuccessful. I emailed them with all the information and specifics. No one contacted me back! So after about a week I went to try to find replacement screws becasue this is what walmart.com suggested as another option. After looking for a long time and several different stores later, I purchased the standard size screws that are just slightly wider than the ones that came with it. The size that came with it is not avaiable at Home Depot or Lowes o other usual hardware stores. So I tried the screws, and with a little forcce was able to get them in most of the way. As I picked it up to attach another piece I saw that one of the screws (that came with it) had already come loose and stripped the wood. I stood it up and it ws very wobbly and uneven. Even the parts the were correct were very loose and unstable. For seventy dollars I expected somethig a bit better. It was a big annoying waste of time and I just retured the whole thing. I was not able to get back the money from the screws I purchased though because they were stuck in the coat tree!
Three people tried to assemble to no avail. Very cheap!
I originally ordered this coat rack beause the price seemed reasonable and it matched the other decor in my office. I think that the overall look of it is very nice, however this thing is not sturdy. This thing was very cheaply made and therefore myself and another person had to screw other hols in just to get the darn thing to stand up. The sticks for the umbrella stand also do not stay up well and we had to super glue them in. I am still considering returning this item.

I will not recommend this item for the fact that the coat pegs while attempting to install them stripped out the female attachment. The only stability for the pegs are using Gorilla Glue.
This product looked beautiful, but was defective! The screw in the middle of pole that attachs the two pieces was stripped so the coat rack could not be put together. Walmart did allow for easy refund, but they couldn't guarantee the next wouldn't have the same problem, so I did not try again. My advice - only get it through the store where you can check immediately to see if there's a defect with the product!
