Excellent Personal Dog Trainer

This is a wonderful product for training dogs. I adopted a stray dog from a shelter and he had many bad behaviors. It seemed like no amount of dog training could change some of them, even with a professional trainer. The collar is quickly put together with the easy to follow directions so can be put on the dog within minutes. The remote control has two options ~ a tone or a shock with 5 levels. I used the shock stimulation twice but found I really only needed the tone on a level 3. The remote has a clip so it can be put on your belt, pants etc. so you can have it with you as you go through the house. There are 3 of us in the house so we all use the same command "(Dog Name) Stop" along with the tone on the remote. My dog started paying attention and changing on Day One. By the third day, if my dog even saw me reaching for the remote he would stop. The remote also works in my large backyard which is a huge plus when my dog is outside barking uncontrollably at odd hours like 5:00 A.M. One really odd thing though is my dog was able to get the collar off somehow during the day when no one was home and he buried it under a pile of blankets. So my suggestion is to make sure it is put on very securely to start. I have two dogs so I started using it on the Beagle first. After all his training is done, which I believe will go very quickly, I will then cut the collar to a small size and use it on my Chihuahua. I would suggest this product to anyone that wants to quickly train their dog at home with a very simple method.

Guardian Static Obedience Dog Trainer MODEL GDT11-12132 These devices are made by PetSafe and I rate it 5 Stars ***** I also have the GUARDIAN EASY TRAINER MODEL GDT11-13915 which has very simular functionality. This review is for MODEL GDT11-12132 This Dog Training device works! I have two 1 year old puppy Catahoula Cur Leopard Dogs with a lot of energy. When I got them as 6 week old pups, I was told with this bred of dog to spend at least 1-2 hours a day minimum training, playing fetch or other activities are they will eat your house and they were right. These dogs are good herding pups and learn fast, although I use them as pack dogs. They have custom made backpacks which they carry some of my light gear while on survival camping trips but still had issues with not listening sometimes. Using this device, it put the final touches on my training exercises and made training easier. The remote uses 1 9 volt battery and has 1 beep audio button and 5 levels of stimulation adjustable levels of static correction which is a light sting. I have tested this device on myself prior to using it on my dogs and it is a bit discomforting but gets their attention quick. I used the sting (shock) twice and never used it again. I only use the 1 beep audio button on the remote and reward them with a treat when they listen. It took constant training 1 week of behavioral modification sit, lay, stop barking, etc..... I took collars off and 2 days later both began to regress in old behavior....not listening! So back on went the collars The batteries were dead in the collar which uses 2 quarter size # 2032 batteries. So I recommend turn OFF the receiver on the collars when not in use to save batteries and also purchase additional batteries. As for the distance, it is rated for 75 feet, but that is sometimes a straight line of site with no obstructions. However, I can hit the beep button while dog is in the other room and he hears the beep and follows my verbal command. The collar is water resistant but NOT waterproof! I wrapped mine with a slice of duct tape to help protect. It has a simple press on/off button and the light on the collar will flash 1 for on and 3 when turned off. The collar is made of nylon with plastic fasteners and the receiver is attached to the collar with the silver metal prongs. I contacted PetSafe tech support dept to ask several questions, they were quick and professional. And told me if I had any more questions or if I had a problem, this device is covered for 1 year limited warranty. So I give them a major thumbs up !

I have used automatic bark collars before but have had issues with false trigger and complicated setting where you have push something several times just to set up the strength. This collar is so much better. It is easy to set up where you know what level you are setting and if it on. The control is easy to read and the right size to keep it handy. I had worked with a trainer because my dog has aggression issues with other dogs. So they used one like this but much more expensive. I got this one so I could make sure to reinforce when needed only. Sometimes it is just having the collar on that keeps my dog calmer. At other times I can stop the bad behavior in its tracks as he is starting to growl. I recommend this collar if you are training. You don't have to shock the dog it does have tone only setting so once they understand you can remind them.

I chose this product because I wanted to stop my Little long hair Chihuahua from bolting out the door at every opportunity. So when I got this product, I read the instruction book, installed the batteries as stated, then started testing the lights everything worked fine. I even checked out the setting on this and unless you have a big dog you don’t want to use the 4th button. But when I went to put it on her I had to adjust the collar a few time to get it to fit and then there was just too much length left. The remote is small almost smaller than the base of the collar (the part that goes under their neck), but it is light and easy to misplace. I’m glad it came with a wrist strap. It can be hard to find in my drawer though. I think this product would be much better suited for larger dogs. I was able to get the collar on my little girl but there was almost twice that length of extra hanging down and I had a choice of either cutting it or wrapping it around. I wrapped it around. I even tried it on my biggest and the sad part is that was that even on her there was too much extra. She weighs around 12-15 lb so I would recommend it for a 30lb or larger dog.

We recently adopted a 60 lb Black Lab so I decided to try out this dog training collar with her to curb some of her undesirable behaviors, like chewing our stuff, and nipping at our hands and arm. I have read some of the other reviews about the batteries and pairing issues and think that this product might have been revamped since then. The product I received comes with lithium batteries for the collar which so far have held up well and not run out. We also have not had any issues with the remote and the collar not being able to send and receive a signal. We have used the collar on our dog regularly for the past two weeks and have noticed a substantial change in her demeanor and behavior since then. The thing I like about this collar is that is has the option to just use an audible tone for the corrections or you can use the stimulant shock on a level of 1-5. We actually have been able to just use the audible tone for the corrections of our dog and she seems to respond well to that. Even just putting the collar on her seems to change her attitude and behavior. We did test the stimulant shock on several levels and the firs 3 are not that strong, but strong enough to make a point. I do not think that anyone would even need to use level 4-5. Overall, I think this is a good product and have had no issues with it so far.

Hello Folks, I picked up a stray Belgian Malinois Shepherd puppy about a month ago who was stranded at one of our recreational areas here in Southwestern Arkansas. Her name is now Sheba, and as with all puppies, she is going through the "puppy" stage - chewing, biting, pooping & peeing inside, digging, etc.! This collar has really made it easier to train Sheba not to destroy the house. Instead of having to yell and correct her whenever she does something she shouldn't, all I have to do is press the button! The mild electric (static) shock doesn't really hurt her, but it does get her attention and when the shock is associated with a firm "NO", the no has a much greater effect. I have convinced her that chewing on furniture, pulling the stuffing from bed quilts, cruising the kitchen counters, and several other things are not in her "best interest". I've yet to completely solve the peeing on the floor during the night problem, but if I could actually catch her doing it and get a stimulus to her at the time, I'm certain that she would also do better at holding it until she goes outside!

As my dog is 18 and lucky to be walking I couldn't use this on him for a proper evaluation. So I sent it to my sister who has a 5 year old , 3 year old , and 6 month old all German Shepherds . She reported back to me that she followed the instructions but could not pair the remote with the collar. I drive a semi so the next time I got to her area I got a chance to play with it myself and read the directions and to my surprise couldn't get it either but after changing batteries and everything I could think of I thought well the remote at least lights up when you hit the buttons but the collar did nothing. I thought maybe we didn't have the batteries in right and opened it one more time and at the bottom of the area you install the batteries is a little spring loaded piece of metal that makes the connection to the batteries that was not sticking up high enough to touch the negative side of the 2 button cell batteries it comes with. After lifting up on it I installed the batteries again and it lit up blinked and paired all by itself. They are currently using it for the puppy and the 5 yr old and it does get their attention and seems to be working without having to use the shock version of it. Hope this helps people so you don't have to return it.

Can't speak for the value, because we got it free and we couldn't find a price online anywhere. He definitely knows when he has it on, and his overall amount of barking has decreased, but he still barks at times until we press the button. He is a good, smart dog overall, but he is one of those dogs that likes to bark naturally. So it may take a long time, if ever, to break him from barking. We had other trainer collars, this one works the best. It has a antenna on the inside of the collar to pick up the signals better, so it's always responsive, and slightly smaller in size than the other trainers. He is used to having a collar on, but he knows when this collar is put on him and tries not to bark. We don't know if it curbs his barking when we are not home to press the button. It has 12 clicks of power on a dial if you need to increase the intensity of the shock you give him when you press the button. It flashes a red light on the remote, when you press the button. It has a beep function, mostly meant to train him, even thought I use it to warn him before I shock him. Sometimes that will stop his barking, so I don't have to shock him. I would recommend this to anyone that needs to train their dog.

The first thing I noticed was that the corrector is very big and heavy with huge, scary spikes on it. It says that you can use it on an 8 lb dog, but it was way too big for my 15 lb Chiweenie. It seems heavy duty and well made and it has an adjustable strap on the collar to fit 6"-28". It says it has 5 levels, but it's more like 9 because it goes up half-way between numbers, too. I had my 210 lb hubby try it on his arm. At #1 it was an unpleasant tingle. #1 1/2 ish had him really squirming. At #2 he ripped it off and refused to try again. He said there is NO way we are putting that on our dog. I'm scared the big contact spikes alone will hurt her. You can use it with tone only, but my dog barely seemed to notice. Maybe I would use this on a big, tough dog, but it seems like a last resort.

As the owner of a large breed dog who has problems with barking excessively and digging, an electric collar was one of the training methods we had been considering. The Easy Trainer was unfortunately not the best option for us. When the collar is actually working properly, it does do its job. But after only two times of our dog wearing it (which was under complete supervision and for only a brief period of time), the collar stopped functioning consistently. Aside from draining the batteries extremely fast, the general functions of the collar just seemed to go. The warning beep works only when it decides to. That sound is what we rely on to help us use the collar to train and without that function working as expected it renders the collar completely useless. Because of the inconsistent performance of the Easy Trainer collar, this is not something which I would recommend to other dog owners. It’s unfair to dogs in training to use such a flimsy product that instead of helping, wound up competing with the consistency required to train. The collar itself seemed well made, fit our dog well and the instructions were easy to follow and I felt safe using it on my dog- if only it had been able to fulfill its use it would have still been a part of our training routine.
