The installation of the door is irreversible, which is not like other components that you can freely change whether and where to put them.
These doors were ALL dinged badly on at least one corner and were difficult to install, though not impossible. I would recommend buying them in the store so you can look them over, unless you have time for exchange mailings. My husband was easily able to put together the cubes and put the casters on, but the doors were a bit of an ordeal--didn't line up correctly. He made them work and I glued and sharpied in damaged corners. They are doing the job we need them to do, but it was a bit of a frustrating process and they are not perfect. We would not have ordered without the door option, though.
Compared to the value of the cube these cabinets are a ripoff. At $7 apiece the cabinets are ill-fitting and the handles on two of the four we purchased were already stripped so we had to superglue them on. The doors are very thin so if you plan on using childproofing know that the screws for the child locks will poke thru and show because the doors are so thin. I liked the cubes and the drawer/shelf accessories but we won't be purchasing any more cabinets.
I ordered these for my black shelves but was sent white so I had to return them. I was happy enough with the storage bins and drawers I ordered that I didn't reorder these.
