We looked at 3 different Amish woodworking shops in our area trying to find the best deal on a QUALITY swing/play set at a REASONABLE price. All of the quotes that we got on comparable swing sets ranged from $3,500 to $5,200 depending on what accessories you chose (i.e. stained wood vs. painted, plastic glider vs. wooden glider and cloth roof vs. wooden). I found the Gorilla Double Grand Play set on Walmart for $2,000 unassembled. We received the play set about 1 week after ordering it. It came in 8 boxes. We opened and inspected each box to make sure there were no damaged or missing parts. The instructions are HORRIABLE. My husband is an Aircraft Mechanic and the instructions had him scratching his head trying to figure out what they wanted. Over all we are extremely happy with the swing/play set. My son is 4 and my niece is 5 and they have no problem monkeying around on it. I am 5'1 and I can stand up with no problem inside of the play house. They quality of the play equipment is great. Once assembled it is super sturdy and looks like it was built by the Amish. With 24 hours of labor we were able to save between $1,500-$3,200 by going with this swing/play set. WELL WORTH THE MONEY TO SEE MY SON AND NIECE ENJOY THEMSELFS SO MUCH. Some tips that may help others that we learned the hard way: * The boards are not clearly marked but we did figure out there is a coding on the end of each board - it is the board size + board length + board position (i.e. 2458LDSSB = 2x4x58" Lower deck support sandbox board). * When you get to Step 6: Lower Deck Supports this part you have to use your "Hex Lag Screw" and screw them into your corner post (there are no holes pre drilled).
Well, I read the other reviews and was concerned that this swing set was going to take a lot of time and effort to put together... Well, it did take a lot of time to assemble, not to mention a bit of blood (literally), sweat and tears (plus a few curse words). However, my girls absolutely love it and made the effort to put together completely worthwhile. The set is made of extremely high quality cedar lumber. It took me over 30 hours to put this set together on my own (only had a little help getting the 4" x 6" x 10' swing beam into place), but I am a bit of a perfectionist. (Two 10 hour days over a weekend and few evenings after work). The tube slide took a bit of muscling to assemble and get into place (I would recommend not tightening any of the bolts until it is completely assembled, but tighten them right before your ready to install it), but really makes the play set awesome (I had to try it and it was crazy fun). When assembled this thing is really solid and was able to hold me without any problem. The picture I included is shown before I installed the dormers and chimney, because I need to borrow an extension ladder to get up there. I do have a couple gripes about the set though. If you decide to make the sandbox area a sandbox, then it blocks off an entire side of the picnic bench. We decided not to make it a sandbox, and will probably move the sand and water table that we already had in its place The other gripe is about the three sets of sunbursts you have to assemble with out any real instructions other than "evenly space the rays." I almost went and busted out my protractor, but got it "close" by eyeballing it. I also had a couple of the lag screws shear while torquing them down, but eventually got it together (luckily there were extras). I also wish that the roof was water tight, but I am looking at ways of sealing it so that it is. Bottom Line: THIS THING IS A GREAT VALUE, A LOT OF FUN FOR MY KIDS AND IS MADE OF GREAT QUALITY CEDAR WOOD!!! I WISH I HAD SOMETHING LIKE THIS WHEN I WAS A KID!!!
We bought this for our son for Christmas. The qaulity is outstanding!! The weather hasn't been nice enough for him to enjoy it yet, BUT it's finally starting to warm up!
This is a great playset with all of the bells and whistles of other sets. HUGE savings from Walmart on this set if you look at other places for the same one. The tube slide is worth every penny! Durable construction and ample room for 3 kids and an adult on the main platform. Yes, as stated in other reviews, this is a JOB to put together. Husband and a friend who builds houses, took a day and a half to put together. With additional hours spent on the decorative elements, such as the sunbursts, chimney, dormers & rope climber the following day. So it is doable, but time consuming. An impact wrench is recommended for this job by the guys. Would highly recommend purchasing this gorilla playset.
few missing parts. Few parts miss labelled in the directions. But if you take you time and do a complete inventory then you should be okay. Just my wife and I put this together in 2 full days.
the directions are a lil off and we were missing some hardware. the people that was contracted to deliver the set, confirmed a drop off time and never showed up.BUT check this out Wallmart had my back the refunded my shipping and handling and the set was delivered the next day. when i told them i was missing hard were the gave me a choice wait for the parts or they will make a funds adjustment and i can go get what i need they gave me more than enoph to cover the part at the end of the day its amazing i could not be happy er with wall mart or the product .id say ill defiantly be getting a nether one but trust me there's no need this thing will out live me! thanks again a happy wallmart custemer!
We ordered this playset in April and had to wait over 3 weeks before it was delivered ... well past Walmart's delivery estimate at checkout. The shipment arrived damaged. Several boxes were torn in numerous places and soaked with rainwater. After an inventory of the contents ... we were missing several pieces and found several damaged pieces. I feel the damage and un-timely delivery are to be blamed on the shipping carrier. That being said ... Walmart will refund the cost of shipping if your delivery is late. You should anticipate potential delays in delivery if you need this in time for a gift/party. Now, back to the playset. The quality of the product was outstanding. I just wish we received everything we needed to put it together the first time without having to wait for the manufacturer to send out replacements!! We also didn't have enough hardware to complete the playset and had to make several trips to our local hardware store. It is possible these items fell out of the damaged boxes during delivery. However, we had pieces left over that didn't even go to this playset, so I can't say for sure what happened. As far as assembly ... what a nightmare. I can't stress enough how important it is to inventory all of the package contents and read the instructions FIRST. Do this before you even attempt to put the playset together. There are numerous typos and omissions in the instructions. You will damage key pieces if you do not heed my advice. Save yourself some blood, sweat and tears!! Also, the instructions read to allow 6 hours for assembly if you are experienced and have help but up to 2 days if you are novice with little help. It took my hubby 3 straight days to put it together and he used work in construction!! I think it might have gone smoother if we had be forewarned about the lacking instructions. After all this ... I was ready to rate this product a zero but I shared my concerns with Walmart and they stepped up and reimbursed me for my trouble. This prevented me from having to pack up the boxes and return the item just to have to wait impatiently for a replacement playset. It is finally assembled and it looks amazing. The kids love it!! You can't find this playset anywhere at this price!! It is the same playset as the Gorilla Big Skye I. We looked at numerous playsets but they were unparalleled in quality at this price!!
High quality, very sturdy playset. This playset is strong enough for adults to climb on. It took 2 adults, 3 days to complete. Be sure to sort and label all parts before starting assembly! We have had the set for 1 month and our kids love it. We did a lot of research on the more expensive brand of popular playsets and this one is even better. It has more spindles to keep kids from falling out of open areas. The swings are high quality and the other accessories are really fun.
Great set. Shopped around a lot and the Double Grand seemed liked the best buy and it was. After reading reviews I opted to hire someone to do the install. I'm very handy but thought it would be difficult to install the set without assistance. I called a local dealer that sells the set under a different name for $4,500 installed. He sent a guy out that installed it by himself at a cost of $450.. The guy was an ox carrying the boxes that ranged from 13lbs. to 288lbs. to the back of my 2 acre property. The set is high quality, very sturdy, and is far cheaper than than comparable sets made by different manufacturers. My kids love it and so do all of the kids that visit.
We bought the previous model of this swingset, the rock wall is located differently. We have had it for 3 years now and it still looks almost brand new. My husband put it together almost completely by himself, with help from my dad for a few of the big parts. It took him a whole weekend and a few extra hours during the next week. Our two kids play on it every chance they get. It has definitely been well worth every penny. It is very good quality and should last us a really long time. I would highly recommend it!
