I searched online for a DVR system for our house, and found this one to be a good value. I hooked it up to a 25" LCD monitor with HDMI and get great video. It came with 8 cameras, and I plan to get others with better long rang capabilities. I find that I get great night video at about 30'. Our back porch is pitch black at night and you can still make out facial features at 10-15'. When the motion sensing lights kick in you can make facial features out at about 20'. You just have to be selective where you mount the cameras to hit all your trouble spots with the shorter IR range. I am going to get some 70 foot IR ones to add to the system.
Overall easy to boot up and hook up. Cameras work instantly. Color not the greatest or the IR vision distance. Good for what made for. Tho this system comes with a bit lower resolution cameras, I wanted the DVR and software mainly. After shopping around for separate DVR's, this system I could get 8 cameras/add 8 more and get the DVR for what most DVRS with similar or less features cost by themselves with no cameras. I have bought 4 separate higher res cameras to add on and planning to get more. :) Within the DVR , the display control menu is a bit quirky and very small. I have yet to load the browser network software, which looks like the place to control things a bit easier.
Installation took around 14 hours total, that includes mounting camera and pulling cables through the attic, fishing cables through the wall. Lots of time up and down a ladder. My system was missing a cable which the company said they would ship. During the camera set up, the DVR hard drive crashed. They are going to send a new one but I have to pay to send the old one back and also wait another 2 weeks. When it was working for the first 10 minutes, the operation was user friendly and the picture was very clear. I did have to buy extention cables for 7/8 cameras, so plan ahead if you have a large home. I'm sure it will all squared away, but it is dissapointing to invest that much work only to have to wait weeks for replacement equipment. In all, it ended up being about a $1000 investment for extra cables, BNC connectors etc. I would still recommend it, but if you plan to self install you need to be comfortable pulling wires and having the tools to do it. Spoke to customer services 3 times, they are polite and generally there is no wait time.
system came as advertised. Installation was simple.
The DVR seems to be very good. However the cameras, cables and remote are not very good. The cables ( 5 out of 8 ) are bad. The remote is bad. The cameras are very narrow view. For a 14x14 room you will need a least 4 cameras to see most of the room. I sent my unit back for a refund.
i'm on my 4th unit now, they work for a month then break down and customer service with the company is the worst i've ever experienced
