Pros: Tried some snorkeling pictures (attached) and they were okay considering the fact that the water was pretty murky. Tried the camera in the pool and the pictures were bright, sharp, and very detailed. Cons: Unclear how to go back to the normal picture taking scene once the particular scene is selected. For example, selected 'underwater' and when I wanted to take some regular pictures, not sure how to de-select the underwater option. There are options for macro, night, fireworks, city, etc etc but not sure how to just get back to the regular setting. Other thoughts: excellent camera for the money. Very pleased with the use in the ocean. Simplicity makes it ideal for underwater photography
have gone through a few Nikon Coolpix; but give away to my children for their vacations - I've used them all weather - hot and cold, underwater; had NO trouble charging the battery, hope you 'locked' the battery compartment before diving into the water. I do like the newest version, so I'm happy to give over a Nikon to my children. At the beach you need to rinse so the sand doesn't stick.
i love it. it took great pictures under water. i had people ask me where did get my camera and i told them walmart. i already have two people bought it. with or without water it still take great pictures
I still need to learn all the features. I had a ton of fun using it underwater at the beach - got really neat pictures. I like the size, weight and just the feel of it. Very happy with the purchase and it's at a great price - - especially to have the underwater option. I recommend it.

Bought this for the office for receiving to use for damaged goods (standard far-off shots) and shipping to use (close-up shots). Past cameras would focus well or at all on the close up pictures but this works great! Durable, easy to download pictures & charge. It's actually now getting fought over. :)
Just got it - but we think it will work for what we need.
I have had two of these cameras and have had to replace them both. The camera took good pictures while on land or snorkeling but I feel the problem is the way the battery charges. You have to leave the battery area open to charge the battery instead of being able to remove the battery and charge it. This allows moisture from a humid room into the camera and then it stops working. ***Please Nikon....give us a charger to put the battery in and be able charge the battery outside the camera!!! Hotel and resort rooms are extremely humid, especially in Mexico, and this is a major problem.
I bought this camera to take on my first cruise. I had planned on doing a lot of snorkeling adventures. First port was Cozumel and as soon as I thought this camera was the bees knees it went dark. I was only skimming the top of the water never dove past 5 ft. down. The rest of my trip was awesome but no pics to show. I even got to feed sharks. Would like to show proof but as you guessed, NO CAMERA!
You may be fine taking pics underwater, but not on land. And the video footage on land is all around horrible. Not to mention that every time you put the battery back in after it has been charged, you are greeted with a screen asking you if you agree that it is okay to place in the water..blah, blah, blah. I took it back.
