It works great for my other half that is taking drafting classes. It holds his house plans and is the perfect size! The screws that come with it for the legs need to be a tad longer, but that was nothing a 2 dollar purchase at the local hardware or walmart couldn't fix! If you are looking for a great deal on a drawing/drafting table this is it!!
What can I say? A quality drawing/drafting will run you, at the very least, about $130. This is a $75 drawing table and you get what you pay for. On the plus side, the drawing surface is very large and it looks really nice fresh out of the box. My husband, who is a 2D animator and for whom this was a Christmas gift, appreciates the fact that he no longer has to hunch over to draw and that the table is large enough that he can put his portable light table on it and still have room to draw. As you will read in most of the reviews for this product, the biggest problem is assembly. One of the screws meant to attach the back leg to the cross-bar was too small so we had to improvise with the screws we had on hand. Also, the snaps which hold the adjustable legs in place are unreliable. Every time we move the table, one of the snaps comes undone and the leg slips down and must be readjusted. In short, this is a cheaply made, functional, ultimately disposable drawing table. I recommend it for people like my husband and I who are serious artists and who plan on investing in a nice drawing table someday but just need something to see them through the rest of college.
I purchased this drafting desk for two reasons: 1. It's small size of 3' x 2' as my tiny office had pretty much run out of room; and 2. Because the Walnut finished top matched the other items in my tiny office. I had the item shipped to the store and was able to pick it up within a week. The very first issue is that the desk top is white, not Walnut, and the writing side is marred. I specifically went for the Walnut top when looking at drafting desks and passed on similar items that came in white. Problem number two has been metioned by other reviewers: the two bolts that attach the back support legs to the side supports are too short to connect the items. I did have to run out to the hardware store and buy (2) $0.75 metric bolts to connect the framework of the desk. While there are no written directions for assembly, the graphic instructions are fairly easy to understand. Each piece is labeled, as are the bolts and screws. Assembly time (once you have the correct length bolts) is probably less than unpacking the box. Once assembled the desk feels fairly sturdy. I have requested a replacement top through WalMart customer support simply because I want the color I thought I was purchasing, but otherwise it is a reasonable drafting table for a low-ish price.
This table is just the right size for what I needed it for. CONS!!!!! I'm an Engineer and I've been doing woodworking for over 40 years. This table is not very well constructed. The instructions are lacking and when I tried to attach the top to the legs I discovered that there were no guide/starter holes to show the user where to attach the legs. The only choice I had was to lay the top on the floor, turn the base upside down and position it myself. Also, the back legs of the table are the only thing that attaches to the top. The upper part of the front legs simply hold it up. If you unlock the locking ring that holds the upper legs in place it is likely that the upper legs will slide down into the lower legs. You'd have to turn the table upside down to get them apart.
This product comes with a very small, hand-held hex driver. The parts were not clearly labeled and the hex screws will not screw into the holes in metal base/legs. I am a single female and have put together computer desks, bookcases, bathroom storage cabinetry with no problems. This table is still in pieces, unassembled, waiting on help from someone to get it put together. If I can ever get it assembled, it appears that it will meet the crafting/sewing needs for which I purchased it. I guess it will take me a while longer to find out.
the screws are too short so u have to get new ones. the frame of the table is designed badly.
Despite some serious reservations after reading the other dismaying reviews here, I bought this item because I am just starting out and did not want to invest in a good drafting table just yet. Even at $60, the cheapest one I could find, it's still a ripoff. I have to echo what the others said about the screws being too short - even with a lot of patience, manual dexterity, and good tools, I could not seat the screws in the threads and had to buy longer ones. I had to hammer the leg joints on to get them to stay put and go on straight. Even put together as firmly as I could manage, the entire thing is very flimsy and unstable. Because the front legs aren't fastened to the top, it's very difficult to move (also, because it's so flimsy, it falls apart when moved). The surface is not easy to adjust - the weight of the top pushes the legs down, and if you're not careful, the smaller poles can slide all the way down inside the bigger ones, meaning you have to turn the entire table upside down to get them out. As cheap as it was, it's a complete piece of garbage and it was not even worth the $60. My advice - invest an extra $20-40 and get something a little better. You certainly couldn't do worse than this.
