Like so many before me, it was James Wright's video that brought to my attention that Patti LaBelle was selling Sweet Potato Pie via Walmart. Prior to that, I did not know. Today I finally sought out this pie at the Walmart in Daytona Beach Florida. I recall watching a talk show where Patti mentioned that the pie tastes even better warmed up. The box containing the pie had warming instructions for the "just baked" flavor. I followed those instructions and finally sliced myself a 1/4 of the pie. Wow! I could not believe it. The hype was true. While eating it, I thought of future family gatherings where I would be sure to buy Patti LaBelle's Sweet Potato Pie. I also intend on warming it up because it was truly flavorful. There was however one problem. I overdid it. I could not resist the temptation so I had another 1/4 of the pie (see picture). How am I going to explain to my wife that I made a pig of myself? Be forewarned.
I am an avid Baker, extremely picky and critical of store-bought products. They are usually disgusting to barely tolerable even made in the store bakery. This pie, flavor, texture, presentability.....absolutely delicious. The crust is just like homemade I'm very surprised and pleased this was such a tasty item I'll never say they're as good as mine, But this was VERY close.
Not sure why so many bad reviews. I truly enjoyed the flavor, didn't find too spicy since enjoy stronger nutmeg and spice flavors. The odd thing was the heartburn. No other spiced foods, and I drink strong chai homemade with heavy spices. Even a spoonful (tried one afternoon) and bam, that one bite gave me heartburn again. I assume the chemicals. Rated 3 for this reason
Someone must've dropped my pie prior to delivery. The crust is crumbled, pie pan is crushed. Patti's Pie is always great tasting. This one cannot be displayed or served to my guest. So disappointed.
I tried the "Pattie pie" literally minutes ago. Maybe I went in with my expectations too high or maybe I just wanted to believe that some ppl are just being petty. My honest opinion is the pie was just ok and I'm being honest when I say mine tastes better. Hers is very sweet and it doesn't hold(it's really soft). It is however, better than the "regular" store bought pies but if you're like me and like the deeper dark colored pie, you'll agree this pie isn't bad, but it IS a bit overrated. *I did not heat the pie so idk if that would've made it better.
I was really looking forward to trying this pie as I love sweet potato pie. It does tast good, very good especially when heated. My problem is with the amount of fillers that are used in the making of this pie. If you look at the ingredients you will see things like corn syrup, maltodextrin, modified corn starch, dextrose, potassium sorbate, sodium phosphate, sodium propionate, and xanthan gum. Many of these product are derivatives of the corn plant and have absolutely no business being in a pie. This delicious pie could be made with only 4 ingredients but to drive down pricing they have pumped it full of fillers. It's really sad in my opinion.
I went to Walmart this morning and picked up this patti labelle pie, and I must say the hype is definitely exaggerated, this pie was terrible. Cooked in the oven for 20 minutes as the instructions stated. The pie is too sweet, too much cinnamon, it has so much nutmeg that it leaves an after taste in your mouth, the pie is really soft to where when you cut a slice it falls apart. It's terrible I would not recommend it, save your money. BACK TO THE KITCHEN WITH THIS ONE PATTI. Two thumbs down.
