Word goes out quickly when I refill the feeders with these sunflower seeds and the green parrots arrive. The cardinals also love them, as well as my other standard backyard birds and of course, the squirrels.
Birds love the Black Oil Sunflower seeds. I mix these with safflower seeds as well. I love that the birds love it <3. Some of the seeds sprouted and my backyard has beautiful Black Oil Sunflowers growing.
I like that the large size is more economical to purchase. The birds love it. (And the squirrels 😟). I have had very good product success on every purchase except for this latest purchase. The package contains a lot of small wood chips. I'm uncertain why those are in the bag. I am attaching a photo.
Typical black sunflower seeds. The birds (and squirrels!) love it. No filler seeds, so even what's knocked out of the feeders is good. And if something sprouts in the lawn, at least it's a hardy sunflower.
I expect small twigs and debris in the bag but the last bag was at least 1/4 bag of filler seed. If I wanted cheap mixed seed I wouldn't spend over $30 for it. You can see from the photo that the top half of the feeders, filled with the new bag is vastly different from the bottom portion.
I have bought Pennington Black Oil Sunflower seeds from Walmart for years, even during the pandemic and never had a problem with the few sticks and stems before. Now however, it appears half the 40 lb bag and smaller sizes are half sticks and stems! The birds don't eat sticks and stems, they clog the holes the seed should come out of. Pennington reimbursed me for the last bag and I am going to call again about this last bag, but that is not about the money. It's about being ripped off. The bags don't last long when half of it is garbage. It should be discounted and stated 50% sticks and stems.
Seeds are smaller and thinner looking than the bag I purchased from Chewy.com. The birds are going thru the seed so quickly because it's mainly shells. I will go back to purchasing from Chewy instead. I also purchased a window style birdfeeder and used same day pick up from In Store stock. As soon as we lifted the box up you could hear all the broken pieces sliding around. Not cool WalMart, not cool!! I ended up getting a nice window feeder from Amazon. See attached photo
The percentage of sunflower plant stems and pods mixed in with the seeds is too much. It used to be a rarity to see any debris. Now it's remarkable. Where is quality control??
I've been buying this seed for two years and have had no problem, however, today I received a bag and it is half full of debris! If this is the new standard for Pennington, I will find another supplier. I don't even want to give this to my birds tomorrow.
I ordered several things to be delivered today. Kelsey the driver did not deliver my 40 pounds of sun-flower seeds. You can see by the package delivered is NOT 40 pounds of sun-flower seeds
