At first the levered-handle to dispense (you have to push down and then forward) is confusing, but once you realize the levering is to make it easier to operate, it's a joy. The quantity is large, too which makes dipping into the seed less frequent.
I love it. It's very handy at filling finch feeders.
We have had the first one for years but one side of the pull through mechanism broke (we continued to use it) and finally found another one to have ready when the first one really bites the dust. They are great!
I'm thinking square peg, round hole! I purchased this to use filling my bird feeders, all of which are round. The square shape of the funnel that should go into the feeder does not work well. The whole idea is to avoid spilling seed. You are much better off with a round scoop and funnel. Wal-Mart sells a red one, and it is very handy. If not in the Pets section, you might find it in Automotive. Both have a simple "stop" valve which is very easy to use.
The seed gets clogged easily in the square opening and the opening is not big enough. I should have returned it at the time
