I've had fun watching the squirrels try to get at the bird seed to no avail. I ended up coating the roof with Vaseline because I was afraid they'd figure it out after days of trying. It worked- roof shows lots of little paw skid marks- and they've quit trying!
Squirrels had taken over my bird feeders to the point that birds would not come. Nothing worked until I purchased this Squirrel proof bird feeder. There is a weight limit on the feeder. When the squirrel attempt to feed, the feeder tray closes so they can not access the food. Yet the birds light weight is within range that the feeder remains open during feeding. I absolutely love it.

I ordered this in both green and red and gifted the green one to my neighbor for her birthday. These both work great since we have a lot of squirrels here!! This morning one finally made it to the feeder but when he landed at the front door it closed. He tried shaking or rocking the feeder and kept looking in the window appearing to confirm there was food in there. The cardinals would land and feed when he was on the roof but every time he got down there the the door closed. Took about 30 min but he finally gave up.
This feeder is very cute, and looks adorable in our yard. It is sturdy and stands up well, even with our giant squirrels climbing it. Lol! We have squirrel and bird feeders so we aren't overly concerned with the squirrels continuing to feast from it, but it is really funny to watch!
Be sure that the roof is VERY securely attached. I have several (counted five recently) that drain my other bird feeder on a regular basis; hence, the reason for this purchase. As you can see from the attached photo (although not as clear as I'd like), the squirrels were able to remove the roof and just sat inside helping themselves. :o(
In theory, it should be great. But I have hung it with other feeders and the birds will not eat out of it. They are eating the same food from the other feeders just fine. But, bears like it. And it did survive the bear attack.
Not very squirrel proof. It been on the ground twice with all the seed spilled out
Squirrels defeated it in no time! I feed the squirrels And they have their own feeder but I went out of town for a couple days and I left 2 5 gallon bucket 1 full of bird feed the other full of Squirrel feed And the little Buggers ate through them So they are currently being punished so I'm not gonna feed them for two weeks So they have set their eyes on this feeder
I like that it was delivered quickly and was a pretty color. However after 4 months, it started to rust. Disappointing, especially since it was not due to rainfall amounts! We are in a drought.
