I've used these tie outs for about 4 years now. I connect 2 together on my gas lamp post in my front yard and it reaches my front door. The length is then perfect to allow my chihuahua and chi mix to roam my yard all the way out to the sidewalk. They have held up for well over a year now. I need to replace one as the metal hook closure has broken. Don't know what I'll do if Walmart stops carrying this item. All the other options are too heavy for my small dogs.
I've had this tie out for about 6 months. It works great for my 10 lb. chihuahua/dachshund mix. You will have to buy a ground stake or something similar in order to clip the tie-out to. I use a metal stake that I bought at my local dollar store to anchor it. This is a great tie out for a small dog. It gives Sadie plenty of room to sniff around in our back yard and do her "business" while I am inside.
I've purchased 2 of these so far. They seem to last about 6 months before the weather takes a toll on the vinyl coating that covers the cable and allows the cable to kink and eventually break. I tried using one of the long fabric training leads and it only lasted a month before it frayed so badly my dog broke free. This cable is the better deal.
Granted, this tie-out is very inexpensive, but I would find it disappointing even if it were FREE. The problem is that it is nothing but a thin piece of stranded wire with clips on each end and a vinyl covering. I bought 2 of these for a pair of 6-pound Pomeranian puppies who were able to chew completely through the wire in just 3 days. Additionally, the wire develops kinks that can't be undone. I guess if you have only one small puppy (that doesn't chew on everything) then it would be OK, but my pair were constantly getting tangled up in them too. Do yourself a favor and buy the 15-foot fabric tie-out. it works much better.
