The Pioneer Woman Premium Ice Cream Starter Kit was actually really easy to use. I have always seen these old school ice cream makers and have been super curious about them so I was really excited to try this out with my kids. I really like that this kit comes with a variety of different flavors so everyone can have an ice cream flavor that they like. The flavors are salted caramel, birthday cake, toffee caramel and mint chip. This kit also comes with the rock salt you need to make some great ice cream. For each ice cream you will need a couple of extra ingredients to make it such as milk and heavy cream. All you have to do is chill the ice cream canister until it's super cold to the touch to ensure that the ice cream is chilled. Then you have to combine ice cream mix with 2 cups of milk and 2 cups of heavy cream. Make sure you stir it until everything is dissolved and mixed well. Then you pour the ice cream mixture into the chilled canister. You will need to use about 1 to 2 medium bags of ice for each batch of ice cream. It takes about 30 minutes for the ice cream to be done.
I was interested in an activity to have fun with the grandkids (7-13). This kit looked interesting. I have an ice cream maker that is electric and has a tall bowl inside a bucket. You add layers and salt and ice around the bowl then add ice cream mix to the bowl and in 30 minutes ice cream "Happens" I tried the Pioneer Woman kit which came with 8 packets of ice cream mix and a bag of salt. You just add cream and or milk to the powdered mix. The 4 flavors 2 packets of each to include Birthday Cake, Salted Caramel, Toffee Caramel and Mint Chocolate Chip. We had the grandkids over and I said who wants to make fresh ice cream! Instantly the iPhones and iPads were dropped and they came running. It was refreshing. We decided to make the Birthday cake and Toffee Carmel flavors. This is where the creative juices started. They decided they wanted cherries in the birthday cake and sliced almonds in the Toffee Carmel. No problem. Maraschino cherries and sliced almonds were in grandma's baking cupboard. We followed the directions and in 45 minutes we had the first flavor of now "Cherry" Birthday Cake. The ice cream was so smooth, luscious and flavorful with a custard consistency. We put it in the freezer to get it more firm and went on to the next flavor. The now Almond Toffee Carmel. It was equally as flavorful, creamy and so rich. Better then any store bought ice cream. We had such a good time and had an afternoon without phones and iPads. Next week we are making Mint Chocolate Chip and Salted Caramel with chopped peanuts. I highly suggest you try this excellent product and this delicious activity that everyone can participate in and enjoy!
The Pioneer Woman Premium Ice Cream Starter Kit is the perfect way of making ice cream homemade, especially.for.the first time. Everything was so well explained and easy to use. The large bag of rock salt is perfect for making ice cream and a very generous size. The flavors are so delicious. It makes super creamy, rich, and decadant ice cream so quickly. Tastes like an ice cream shop. I love the variety of flavors, and we can't wait to try them all!!
My family has tried two of the flavors so far in the kit. We have tried the Birthday Cake ice cream and the Mint Chocolate Chip. This weekend we are going to try the other two flavors which are Salted Caramel and Toffee Caramel. The first two flavors are wonderful. They were very creamy. We ate it right away after it was made. If you like firmer ice cream you can put it in the freezer to harden if you can resist eating it right away. The kit contains 8 packs of ice cream(2 of each flavor) and an 8lb bag of rock salt. Each pack makes a half gallon of ice cream. I used half the bag of rock salt for the first batch and the other half of the bag for the second batch. My ice melted so I just added more ice and layered it again with more salt. It took each batch about 30 minutes to make. I highly recommend this ice cream. We loved it.
Kids love, I love, Momma loves...everything was so easy. Packed well in shipping. Got all we needed to make but the cream/milk of choice. We made the Pioneer Woman Birthday Cake flavor last night and all agreed was yummy and fast. Wish we could have put in freezer for more firmness but the kids were so anxious because they thought ice cream only came from store or parlors so they were ready to eat immediately. They may never eat from store again. Will do the mint chocolate chip tomorrow or Sunday. Know it will be as good as this was.
The ice cream was pretty easy to make and had most of what I needed with it. I of course had to get ice, milk, and heavy cream. We made the birthday cake ice cream first and it was delicious. It was not that hard of a process to make the ice cream and it did not take a really long time. I can not wait to try the other flavors. This is going to be a fun project for my daughter and I over the summer to make more of our own ice cream.
Pioneer Woman Premium Ice Cream Starter Kit is just what I have been wanting for quite some time. The kit comes with 4 different flavors of ice cream for 1 qt, a large bag of rock salt and the ice cream maker. I made the chocolate chip mint and it was so much better than any store brand. My first bite I noticed how rich and creamy it was. The flavor wasn't just overpowering mint and no other flavor, like store bought ice cream. I was totally impressed and would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about an ice cream maker, for a few $$$ more they can have a ready to go kit. Well worth the effort.
Wow I had no idea how easy it is to make ice cream until I received this starter kit. My daughter helped me make the ice cream following the directions in the bag. You dont need much besides the ice cream mix , milk, and heavy cream. You mix it for a few minutes and add the mixture to the ice cream canister. Add some ice and rock salt put the lid on the canister turn the machine on and bam in 30 minutes you have homemade ice cream. I was really impressed and happy that i can make ice cream at home and no longer have to buy it at the store. Its not as sweet as store bough ice cream but you can add more sugar as you please. The starter kit comes with 4 different flavors , 2 bags of each flavor and a big bag of rock salt. One bag of ice cream mix makes 2 quarts which is more than enough and then some to save. I highly recommend this starter kit for anybody that makes to make homemade ice cream and the kids will enjoy helping and watching how the ice cream comes to life.
We made ice cream this morning with the Pioneer Woman ice cream starter kit along with the coordinating 4 quart electric ice cream maker. This old fashioned tasting ice cream is DELICIOUS. It was so easy to follow the printed directions and in 30 minutes we had 2 quarts of fresh ice cream. The ice cream is finished in the maker when it is more of a thick slurry like a milkshake, but freezes very quickly in a freezer container. The starter set come with four flavors of ice cream, and we used one packet out of eight to fill the 4 quart freezer container. I only used about 6 cups of the rock salt which is included in the starter kit. So we have enough salt for all of the packages. I layered the rock salt with a whole bin of ice from my freezer and chilled the metal container in the back of my refrigerator over night. That worked perfectly. The container could actually hold two packets of the Pioneer Woman mixes at one time, making 4 quarts. One package makes 2 quarts which is plenty for us at a time. The packets take all the measuring away and make the process so simple. We only added 2 cups of milk and 2 cups of heavy whipping cream along with one packet of mix. The flavor selection is wonderful in this kit with something for everyone. I highly recommend this set for summer, for a gift or just for everyday in your own home.
The Pioneer Woman Premium Ice Cream Starter Kit comes with Eight Packages of Ice Cream mix (2 packages of 4 different flavors), Rock Salt, and the electric Ice Cream Maker. By following the directions on the packages, it is very easy to mix the ingredients with milk and cream and then, start the churning. The only problem I had was the Motor/Churner kept coming unlocked. That made it difficult for the churning process to complete. I had to drain the bucket and start over and over again because the ice and rock salt would get under the bucket and push the motor off. After FIVE times, I finally improvised and held the motor down until the ice cream was finished. I think if there was a much better locking system for the motor it would be easier to make to make ice cream. I am sure the unit I have is faulted. Therefore, I can only give this Ice Cream maker two stars because it took a very long time to make the ice cream. But the ice cream was delicious!
