Planet Earth is a cinematic masterpiece. I applaud the producers, directors, camera crews and support staff for capturing mother nature and the animal kingdom in such splendid fashion. The blu-ray picture was superb. A work of art exceedingly rare. Head and sholders above computer generated balderdash.
This was the perfect gift to buy my parents to break in their new HDTV. This is the version narrated by David Attenborough (as it should be!). Clips of this series are on YouTube if you want to see what it's like, but having it all on Blu-Ray is definitely worth it.
After MUCH research I thought I found the format of Planet Earth on blu ray in 1080p, as I had heard the 1080i versions were not as good. None of the websites will tell you which version is formatted in 1080p and which are actually 1080i. When I received this, I was disappointed to learn it is the 1080i format. However, the picture quality is still exceptional!
not all blu ray discs out were shot in 1080 full HD. all old movies are just upconvert 1080i. alot of new tv shows are still 720p HD but planet earth...you will make full use of the blu ray player. incredible show, the quality and the resolution is unmatchable. got it for 40 bucks blackfriday while everywhere else it's atleast double that. if you find it for 40 bucks, it's well worth it.
Some of the scenery is breathtaking and it will show you views of earth like you've probably never seen before. On a different note, most of it is in hi def(1080p) but some of it only looks like DVD, and although I like nature and I find it all to be beautiful(except for the animals eating each other) for some reason, this always puts me to sleep. I don't know if it's the announcer or the peaceful nature scenes, but it'll put me to sleep in a half hour almost guaranteed.
Prestine picture clarity that is hard to believe. HD is definetly the way of the future. Great price, fast shipping to Alaska, perfect for get togethers for friends and family. It can completely captivate you or you can talk with guests without it being overwhelming. Good extras. If you like nature, it is a must have.
IF you haven't seen it, you need to. If you have seen it, you know what I'm talking about. This is the same series the Discovery Channel ran, only it's unabridged and has David Attenborough narrating, instead of Sigourney Weaver.
This series is simply amazing! If you've ever seen any of it on Discovery Channel HD then you know what I mean. This version is NOT narrated by Sigourney Weaver, and I miss her softly-spoken words...but the visuals and low price (for a BluRay series) make up for it.
The best part of the series was the ten minute tidbits at the end of each episode showing how everything was captured on film, etc. I am not sure why, but none of these are on the Blu-Ray edition, but they are on the regular DVD set.
