I've burned wood for a couple of decades, and have owned several stoves. I was looking for a good mix of efficiency, aesthetics, and performance. I like everything about this stove except for one issue. The large and deep wood box is excellent, it burns well and efficiently (I use about 1 cord less wood now per winter than with my previous old, less efficient stove.) I live in Michigan, so we burn from the beginning of November through the end of March. I'm only using 4 cord of wood on an average winter. My only issue is that while the stove has an ashpan (a major plus for me), you can't really use it well on a daily basis. There is firebrick on the bottom of the stove, and if you remove one, there is about a 4" square space where ash can fall through to the bottom. But you'd lose a ton of coals that way as well. Also, because of the way the stove received air from underneath, I think the stove would burn too hot, or be too hard to regulate if it is open, and constantly drawing air. So I found a great 36" shovel that I use to scoop out the ashes into an ash pan. Maybe I'll figure out a way to make that system work, but it seems odd to me at present. But with that aside, this is a wonderful stove that does what you need. It looks great, puts out a lot of heat (when you want), but it can also be closed down pretty well to conserve on wood.
