I had my doubts, but it works like a charm. Articulates easily to cut the back side of hedges, and cuts like butter. Don't get the universal one at Home depot; it is plastic and does not rotate! This was a great buy.
Excellent item, trims like cutting butter. Nice swival for different cut angles. I highly recommend.
I've been hesitant about buying this type of trimmer for years since it looks pretty heavy and once attached to the trimmer engine (I'm using another brand engine for what it's worth, but connects fine) it looks pretty long. I bought it on an impulse at Walmart since I needed to trim and it was a reasonable price and I could just return it if it didn't meet my expectations. To my surprise, it is very comfortable to use because of its length. Once attached to the trimmer engine, it is very balanced. I am no longer bending over to trim the bushes and that is a big relieve of my back. I can just stand upright and trim from the bottom to the top on conicals, sweep across the top on flat top bushes, and easily curve around on round shaped ones without bending or leaning over. I also have a much higher reach to trim my larger arborvitaes without needing to step on anything. It's also easier and faster to shape a bush since you can stand away from it while trimming. The trimmer head can angle up to 90° to get to places I had difficulty getting to in the past. Because of its better reach, I'm able to stand upright for almost all the bushes and I trimmed every bush in my yard in less than an hour without getting tired at all. That's about 40+ bushes (not including cleanup of course). It usually takes multiple days since I cannot keep trimming for hours on end. I've tried battery operated trimmers, very slow and jams really easy; self bagging rotary trimmers, expensive, heavy, extremely slow, very fatiguing and also jams; and traditional electric, which isn't that bad except for dragging around the long cord (150ft in my case), always making sure the cord doesn't get cut and bending over a lot. I can't comment on the longevity of this trimmer attachment because I've only used it once. Although it cut through every bush I had without slowing down. It even cut right through my hollies which gives most trimmers a challenge with its thick branches.
Terrific pricing, prompt delivery, great product. What more can you ask for? Big Box stores: "L" had similar product cost $20 more; "HD" had attachment at comparable price but was not articulated; other vendors had smaller blades or plastic components. I will definitely be purchasing from Walmart again.
After looking at reviews on other trimmer attachments I was mostly worried about the weight. This hedger is not really too heavy at all, and feels balanced opposite the engine. It performs really well and adjusts easily to different angles. It chewed thru woody branches on my bushes with ease. I'm very happy with it.
When I tried to use it, the end guard, which is in the shape of a hook, kept getting hung up. I started to take it off, but felt that it might void the warranty. After about the 4th hang up, i was working it loose, and the base of the housing cracked, right where the adjustment is, from the strain. The Poulan people advised me this was user error and not under warranty, had no replacement part info. leaving me with a broken tool. I did a repair job on it using JB weld, and so far it is holding. Also took off the hook shaped end guard which helped greatly. The 5/8" cutting opening is sometimes obstructed by the double cutting head not allowing the hedge to get into the cutter. Overall an ok item.
Trimmer works well although only used on two occasions for several hours each time. Trimmer is a bit heavy to handle; the motor balances the weight fairly well, however you get a workout using the trimmer. Not recommended for small persons or persons who struggle with upper body strength. One complaint: the locking screw for the tilt feature is a bit cumbersome and tends to vibrate loose over time when being used. The lever on the screw for adding tension is a bit short and not very sturdy. Time and use will tell if it turns into a real issue. As of now, it is merely inconvenient. Overall, satisfied with the product and its performance.
Trimmer works pretty well, did my boxwood hedges in less than an hour, compared to 2-3 hours with my old electric trimmer. Trimmer head does rotate 90 degrees, but is not fully articulating, so can be awkward to use in certain positions. Also, the protective cap on the end of the trimmer catches on bigger branches like those on holly bushes. Overall, I am fairly well satisfied.
Although both weedeater and hedge trimmer boxes say Poulan Pro link attachments, it does not fit weedeater pp125. The boxes are misleading because it doesn't say what models the hedge trimmer will fit. Anyway, got it home, tried putting it on and after no successful tries at getting it to work, I called customer service and they told me the great news that I will have to take it back. It looks like a really good tool. I wish it would have fit my trimmer.
Do not recommend this product because it is too light duty. It cuts small shrubs fine if you are not doing a major cut back. The blades get out of sync when you get it stuck on a 1/4" diameter twig. It will wear you out because of the weight. On the better side, it was easier to balance in my hand while trimming and got to the high places easily.
