There's ample storage room, sturdy, and looks great! A big plus for me...made in the USA!! There are a lot of pieces to put together but the directions are pretty easy to follow. They are mainly pictures with a few words. Be very careful when putting the inside small 'handles' on the sides because I put them in the wrong holes (so they are backwards) which made the lid have to go on backwards! It's fine but the latches are on opposite sides. Oh well, I won't have to lock it because it's inside. Other than my mistake it's a GREAT storage trunk and fits a ton of stuff inside! (hammock, 5 folding chairs, chair cushions and more!)
Assembly was going pretty smooth until I noticed that the plastic corner pieces needed to connect the main pieces was missing from the box. I was very frustrated, but I must say that my call to rubbermaid was great and exceeded my expectations. without any delays or hassles, rubbermaid sent the pieces to me and they arrived just two days later. I was able to complete the assembly and the unit looks and functions great.
I really like the chest that I recently purchased. The only complaint was instructions should have been written out instead of just pictures to show where every thing went.
Took my husband, who is very good at this, about two hours to put it together. The top does not shut, one corner is warped. I don't know who to contact to get this corrected and the item is huge I have no way to get it back to the store. It is a nice size, holds all my patio cushions, but will not keep water off them unless I can figure out how to get this corner to snap closed. Irritated.
I just finished putting it together. Took 3 hours. I followed the directions with no deviations and I still had to take it apart twice to fix it. The hydrolic type springs won't go on. I must have missed it in the product discriotion that I had to put it together... or it wasn't clear... not sure I would buy this item online if I knew it before hand. On the positive side. It's a nice large storage bench, I will be able to put a lot in it. I would recommend with caution regarding the assembly.
After putting this together it doesn't seem as sturdy as the price might indicate. Screws depend on plastic holes to hold. THE TOP IS NOT FLAT. I bought this to double as an outdoor coffee table. There is s "V" in the middle of the lid that makes this useless for a table. I could have bought s smaller/ cheaper model or brand. We will see if it leaks.
We love it. However, the lid is warped. I just wrote hoping they will send a replacement lid. We shutter at the thought of taking it apart to return the whole thing (over 80 screws!)
I bought this for my daughter and son in law a little over a month ago. They assembled it and have been using it to store pillows on their deck. It is in the sun about 1/2 the day. The front and rear panels have bowed out about 1 1/2 inches at the center. The warping is enough that sides are bent out beyond the top about 1/4 inch. Rainwater can com in through a 1/4 inch crack that is about 1 foot long on both the front and the rear. I've taken out some of the cushions so that they no longer press on the front and rear and added some aluminum bracing to try to pull the panels in strait. We'll see if that is enough to correct the issue. If I was doing it over, I'd buy two smaller chests. I think that the long pieces are just to long to stay straight without more bracing. The attached photo shows the amount of warping.
This is the first time I have ever written a bad review. I have been disappointed at times but never as discussed as this time. The product may be good but as supplied by Wal-Mart is absolutely the worst on-line experience in over 5 years. Not only was it shipped without many, many parts included and a notation that any issues were to be settled with Rubbermaid and NOT Wal-Mart. Well at first Rubbermaid said it was not one of their products, but then after insisting that the invoice said Rubbermaid and one of the posts included in the box carried their logo they relented. The reason Rubbermaid would not initially claim ownership is that there was no logo on any of the main pieces (top, bottom, sides) of what was received. Rubbermaid emailed a parts list and I had to match each part I had received to the list and then call them back to indicate what was required to complete the list. This was done and now we wait for the replacements to be sent. Any bets they get it right? Lesson, don't order balky items on-line from Wal-Mart. Leave these types of items to other purveyors such as Wayfair.
BOX CAME MISSING TWO METAL RAILS. PHONED RUBBERMAID AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT ORDER THEM FOR ME. CALLED WALMART AND AM SENDING IT BACK FOR A REFUND.
