I live 50m from Pensacola & Mobile & 125m from Biloxi. Pick up Very good signal for NPR from all 3, any time of day. Radio is fairly small & can take anywhere. Have not tried yet on battery but mine is marked: NEW-rechargable. I love it. A little pricey but rarely drifts so worth it to me.
We have had the radio for about 1 month and it has worked perfectly. The sound is very good. Plenty of volume. It comes with an a/c adapter so you do not have to use batteries. It is very attractive and you can take it anywhere. Very pleased, a good value for the money.
Note: We haven't had this item long enough to determine battery life, but will assume it's Good. My hubby had requested a "small $10 digital AM radio" for his birthday. Upon researching, I found that there is no such item with decent reviews. He had two criteria: 1) Digital 2) Station reach. After looking at a myriad of products and reading their reviews, I finally settled on this specific product. However, it was not available in inventory at ANY local retailer. I was tempted to pay the 30% higher price from a different vendor just to get it on time, but I figured if there were problems with it we could return it locally to Walmart. So I opted for 2 days late delivery (my fault for not searching earlier). When it arrived, he immediately popped in batteries and turned it on... he was ECSTATIC! He was able to tune in to his favorite station (700 mi away!) and the sound was crisp & clear (the antenna was even down & we were inside the house). Over the past decade he's had 4 -5 other radios where he had to wait until dark and listen to fuzzy reception outside. He absolutely LOVES this radio and now spends many more hours listening to his favorite sports channels with clear, crisp sound.
i was surprised on how small it is with no handle or strap for ease in carrying . it's really about the size of a hard back book and it would be easy to carry as such. i have 3 stereos so fm was not my interest am was and to have next to our bed. reading about tuner quality of many different radio from several different sources i came across a tuner review on this one claiming it to be excellant and are they right. i live in the sw corner of indiana and i'm pulling in stations clearly with little to no drift from dallas ft. worth, toronto, canada, richmond, virginia, new york new york, etc. for people who enjoy talk radio this a very good radio clear sound and very sensitive tuner. p.s.ordered online late fri. after hours received it tuesday at my door. quick and easy from walmart. also have never used the batteries so only gave it an average rating as i had to rate it.
Pricey but worth it. Perfect size and color for my bathroom. Good sound. Easy tuning.
This is without a doubt the best portable radio I have ever seen or owned. The digital tuning alone is worth the price. No more slide rule tuning by analog dials that always drift off the station. AM & FM digital tuning stays on the station without error. Alarm feature is nice. Set day/date also. Headphone jack and also auxillary jack to input mp3 player or Ipod, cd player, etc. So far the speakers are holding up very well and capable of good volume. Collapsable antenna extends to almost 3 feet in length. Uses 6 C cell batteries good for about 70 hours according to manual. There is no carrying handle but I can easily transport it to the bathroom for shower and grooming entertainment. It is not a boombox because that would be too big for my needs. I love this radio and so far, the only negative is that the case is white and I had no choice of colors or black. Oh, this little baby even scrolls the info delivered from the radio stations if they do that for their listeners. And once tuned the backlit display goes dark automatically to be unobtrusive in the dark. All great features with 6 station presets for FM and 6 presets for AM....There is a bit more to it but these are the best of the features.
I bought this because I couldn't receive a particular AM radio channel at night in where I live. The digital tuner works great. While there are still some statics, it is much better than my old digital tuner radio/CD boom box. It is quite pricey for a radio, but I would still recommend it for now for those in similar situation.
I bought this new radio because my analog radio had too much statistic whenever I tried to listen to the AM dial (especially at night). This radio helped to eliminate that issue on my favorite AM channel, but all the other channels on the AM dial doesn't work on this radio. The only reason I am keeping it is because at least I can listen to my favorite station on the AM dial.
it sounds OK, nothing to rave about but what makes it definitely not worth the high cost is the old fashioned digital display. the display is so skinny and faint, it's hard to read from a few feet away. all you get is a bright orange, glowing rectangle. i wouldn't even consider this as an alarm clock with all the light it throws off. the station number display is huge but the time display is tiny. I know what station i am listening too, but i want to be able to glance at the radio and see the time. no can-do because it's so poorly designed. i'm sorry i bought this radio, and i'm returning it to the local walmart. and no where on the paperwork or the box does it say the country of origin. for that reason alone, walmart should not carry this brand.
I ordered the Sangean radios as a gift for my husband. Upon arrival, my husband advised me his experience of the poor quality of Sangean radios and asked me to return the radio still unused in the original packaging. The next day I attempted to return the radio by contacting walmart.com. Walmart.com referred me to third-party seller VirVentures. VirVentures referred me back to walmart.com customer service. So forth and so on. After this cycle of poor customer service continued a few times, I realized this was all A WASTE OF MY TIME - which I'm sure is VirVentures M.O. on a daily basis. Additionally, VirVentures customer service reps were NOT HONEST in their emails by pretending they didn't have the order number when the order number was listed in the email they were sending to me! As I said this was a cycle of poor customer service run-around. I will NEVER order from VirVentures again. It will also be a very long time, if ever, that I order from walmart.com again. Go to BBB website and check VirVentures if my comments are not believed.
