This has got to be one of the best hidden gems out there, for the music world. If you are a “Name Brand” shopper, who would rather pay 3-5 times the price, for an unloaded speaker cabinet, that has no clue where the cabinet came from, or what country the customer support team is located in, then this is not for you. For everyone else, I promise you, you cannot beat this Memphis based company. They are the best. I submitted a question, through the support link, and had a response in less then 48 hours (and this was during the Christmas rush. Compared to another “Name Brand” loaded 2x12 cabinet that I own, that cost $150.00, more is an ok box. But I’ve turned around and have almost $200.00, in new speakers to put in it. Now I wish I would have ordered another unloaded cabinet. But, live and learn, because after putting the speakers I want, in this cabinet, my total price will be about $30-40, more than the loaded box. Put your trust and confidence, back in the American companies, and help the small business owners succeed.
Best deal on an empty 2 x 12 cabinet out there. Solid build. It’s pre-wired mono, but that was an easy mod for a stereo set up. The threaded speaker mounts with hardware was a bonus. No drilling necessary. Even has a slightly upward slant on the front panel. Very cool. Extremely happy with my purchase!
Very good shape, I put some of my Celestions and the sound is huge. Nice quality of this cabs! The workmanship is great, the Celestions are cut through the mix
The workmanship was perfect on mine. The wood thickness seems more like 5/8 inch than the advertised 1/2, which is a good thing. I already owned an Avatar 212 of the same exact size with Celestion Vintage 30's. I suspect that this cabinet was modeled on the Avatar Contemporary. I put Celestion Lead 80's in the Seismic. First I rear mounted them from inside the cabinet, meaning the speakers were recessed and the speaker gasket was against the back of the wood baffle. I was disappointted, I felt that the Vintage 30's in the Avatar sounded a lot better. But really the Seismic comes meant to be front mounted, the tee nuts installed into the back of the baffle. So it took the speakers off and front mounted them, meaning that the metal casing of the Celestion Lead 80's was flush against the front of the baffle. Now the Seismic kicks proverbial butt. It sounds different than the Avatar with the Vintage 30's, but I would say just as good. And both together are really great. So yes, front mount the speakers. And I think it very possible that metal on the baffle rather than gasket on the baffle is a plus, perhaps it resonates better against the baffle. Perhaps the fact that the wood is a little thinner also is a plus w.r.t. the sound, as it would seem to me that would improve resonance.
The cab is really large, similar to mesa boogie size cabs, so the sound is huge. I put some greenbackclones in the cab and it sound really great all across the range. It isn't grade A craftsmanship or durability, but at the price, it is well worth the money.
The cabinet seems sturdy enough for my use. I did give all the screws a once over tightening. I also resoldered the wiring at the jacks only because I wanted a different wiring configuration. Only thing I didn't like about it was the predrilled speaker mounts didn't line up with all the speakers I chose, so I redrilled them. That might be a problem for customers that don't want to fiddle with things. I put electro harmonix 75 watt 8 ohm speakers in it wired in series. I am running a 7/15 watt tube head with it and it holds tight bass real well.
I was surprised by the quality for it's price. I had one problem though, when installing the 2nd speaker, it didn't line up with the attached threaded brackets(a plus), other wise a 5 star rating. It sounds great. I added some rubber feet to the narrow end for vertical placement. The plywood measured about 5/8" and seemed sturdy enough for gigging. The tolex, tight and well done. Customer service was excellent, though a little slow in response time but followed up and came through when needed.
I'm incredibly pleased with the construction of the cabinet. Very well made with attention to minor details. I had sworn to never buy another speaker cabinet from Seismic Audio. Because of the bad application of the speaker carpet. It was not tolex. Although overpriced, I like that it is ready to drop in your drivers, and you're ready to rock. I added pop out casters and it needs a speakon jack..
I have this cab loaded with a pair of 1980 Celestion g1265s and wow! The other guitarist has a orange and it sounds good but for the price and comparison, this cab rocks! Im using a 1986 Marshall JCM 800 2205 50 watt head and it really has a nice punch with good clarity . a tip for when front loading is to take a small woodbit and drill through the nuts attached to the cab from the inside so that way you can put your speakers against the, front and just line up the speaker hole with your drilled holes and it should mount fairly easily although with mine, two of the eight nuts were too small and stripped the bolts out but besides that, its an excellent cab, btw I play mainly prog rock and metal in a band and it competes no problem. I highly recommend this cab for your first and it may stay with you longer than you think.
First off, overall, this is a tremendous deal on a cab for the price. Having said that, this is the first out of four Seismic cabs that I've received that had a couple of the speaker mounting 'T nuts' not drilled in the right location, so I had to remove them, drill the baffle board in a few spots, and then relocate them. Mounting the speakers would have been impossible otherwise. It's still a little bit wonky, as doing this the 100% correct way would have required dowels, glue and some plastic wood, but I finally did get the speakers in.
