Mountainous Tibet, the roof of the world, cut off for so long, proud, stubborn. The story starts right before the beginning of WW II and tells of an unlikely friendship and the transformation of a man. Heinrich Harrer goes to climb a mountain and gets waylaid by world events. In the process, he ends up in the Forbidden City of Lhasa where he meets and becomes friends with the (young) Dalai Lama. Until the end of the movie, I had forgotten that the movie was based on a book which was based on the real life experience of Harrer. The Dalai Lama is the 14th and current Dalai Lama. Harrer is 93, the Dalai Lama 81. If you enjoy inspiring stories based on real life events, you will enjoy this movie.
