I got this machine for my 88 year old aunt who had an old Singer almost identical to this one. She had got one at a Walmart store and took it back because the bobbin loaded from the front so it couldn't fit in her cabinet and because it had too many 'fancy stitches' - her words. I found this one online and it is very simple and very close to her old one that quit working. She is totally satisfied with this one and says it works great and meets her expectations.
Very pleased with machine. I've had a Singer product in the past and the quality is unsurpassed. I just needed a simple machine with basic features and am very pleased.
I really like this machine, I use it weekly to make baby items. It doesn not have a vast number of features but for someone who needs a machine to sew everyday items I reccomend it. Just be careful about the bobbin case, sometimes it likes to pop out if the bobbin messes up. Just push the little black flat piece with the hole in it on the left, back and slide it in, then it is just fine. That has been the only issue so far and that isnt a very big issue at all. I like it so far. Oh, and it may give off a faint odor when you first use it like a burning sound but that is just the new smell, it goes away within a few uses. I am quite satified with my purchase so far.
I am teaching myself to sew. And this machine has been perfect for me. Not to complicated but works hard.
This machine is very easy to use and it sews on most fabrics very well. I had problems sewing fleece though, the machine would skip long section of stitches (the threads did not meet to make a stitch.) The machine also sounds like it isn't well made, very squeaky noises when sewing, and the small moveable parts are all plastic they don't seem to be attatched very well. Overall though the machine sews through regular fabric without problems and I have already made several things for my home. I also like the features - there aren't many! Most machines have to many different stitches that I wouldn't use, I also like that it isn't computerized, one less thing to go wrong with it!!! Maybe it's just me comparing the quality to my mom's older singer. Hers just seems to be more sturdy than mine, but it is all metal. I might be more reluctant to purchase something like this in the future without being able to see it first.
I had to replace my 40 yr old Singer. Wanting only a simple zig-zag, I tried this. I could only use 3 of the 6 stitches on the machine, as the stitch selector dial would not turn past "C" (supposedly, it should turn A thru F). It also sounded clunky, and the lighting was poor. I returned the machine after two small projects. Although I am sure not all of these machines are defective, I will replace it with something else. Of course, Wal-Mart took it back without a fuss!
I have been sewing on one machine for over ten years, and when it broke, I bought this product. I really DID NOT like it. It was clunky, and did not work smoothly at all. If you have sewn for a long time, I do not recommend this product. Maybe if you are just beginning...but I still wouldn't. Wal mart was very helpful though, they allowed me to return it since it didn't work out. I DO suggest buying from walmart!!! :)
