I have a Sony DCR-DVD308 video camera that can accommodate the Sony ECMHGZ1 Shotgun Microphone. I use my video camera to record origional music from live local bands in my area. The Sony Shotgun microphone is very functional and lends itself to all recording situations. My video camera records in 5.1 surround sound with the Shotgun microphone turned off or I can adjust the Shotgun microphone to zoom with my telephoto lense to pick up vocals coming from stage performances. I would recommend this unit to any videographer that enjoys quality sound reproduction
amatuer photographer using sony Handicam needed to get close shots with sound yet unable to physically get close to subjects. This was done for my SGI buddhist group for a community fun festival to be sent to Japan to our international president, so It had to be done as professional as possible. AND IT WORKED WITHOUT A HITCH!
The audio on my Sony Handycam no longer records after 2 years of use. Sony wanted over $500 to fix the problem - ridiculous; I resorted to testing the external shotgun microphone. I have not found the zoom mic to work very well, but the gun setting works very well. It only a 2 channels when recording and drains very little battery power. For the cost of $50 this item works as expected, but no needed if your camera's internal microphone is working properly.
