I have a large yard and purchase this product to keep my squirrel dog confined to a specific area. One went through the training method with him it works great. Now I don't have to worry about him going into wooded area and getting snake but.
Bought this a few weeks ago, system has been working great. Our Labrador took a little while to understand the flags were the new boundary but we stuck with the training and so far so good. the system it's self seem to be a quality product the collar is nice and not overly cumbersome for the dog. Only two things I wish sportdog would consider is an ding a buckle to the collar to make it easier on and off the dog or at least offer replacement collars of such design. Also it would be nice to be able to buy the system at a reduced rate without the 20 ga wire or offer the system with an upgraded wire version as we upgraded the wire to 2000' of 14ga wire and it seems waist full to have the 20ga wire as we didn't need it. Also the install of the wire went smoothly, we installed 1700' in all. The best way we found was with a straight pointed shovel and just go a foot at a time wheat faster than I thought wasn't fun but worth it for the peace of mind in the end. Thanks sportdog for the quality product in today's throwaway society. Keep up the good work
This system works great. I've used others but I like this one because the Sprotdog collar is a perfect size and fit and has great stimulation ranges. Easy to set up with the only labor being laying the wire which just takes a little work. My dogs were already collar conditioned from training so learning the fence was easy.
I'm so happy I decided on this in-ground fence system. We installed the fence on 14 acres and it works wonderfully at keeping our 2 Golden Retrievers on our property. The system itself is very compact and lightweight. The rechargeable collars are high quality and very durable. We have a pond on our property that one of our dogs practically lives in. Water wipes right of the collar and it dries quickly. The installation instructions that come with the SportDOG are very easy to follow. Also, their training section was very helpful. It did not take long (maybe a week?) to train our dogs on the boundary. And they've been tempted several times by our neighbor dogs, deer, ground hogs, etc. and they do not go past the fence line. I'll end by saying it was their customer service that initially won them my business. Over Chat on their website, they very thoroughly answered the questions I had on the different systems. She also (I think her name was Jennifer) gave me additional tips for how to lay the wire on our property with it being a large area. The time she spent with me and the extra tips she gave me was what made me Add To Cart. They shipped the system quickly and I'm very pleased to say the quality of their product matches the quality of the service.
Bought this to keep my two dogs in the yard and safe as they kept going in the road. It was very easy to install and setup. They both learned quickly on a minimal setting. So happy with this system!
I have 2 fences work great. Nice if u could buy just the box, instead of set with collar and flags
Purchased the system being cautiously optimistic. We have a 160lb St. Bernard who is 4 years old. He is very playful and likes to explore, so I had no idea if the system would contain him or not. I will start by saying I did upgrade the wiring to 14 gauge wiring for durability and longevity. I mapped out doing approx. 2 acres of free roam for him around our home. I rented a trencher from the local equipment store and while this did save from hand digging the entire perimeter, it was still a meticulous process of packing the wire to the depth I wanted (approx 4-6in). This process took around 9 hours from start to finish and the receiver box showed that the loop was connected. I placed the given flags around the boundary and leashed him up. The first couple days we spent going out and about around the space, he'd get close to the flags, the collar would beep and I'd give him a tug back to safety. (The collar has 8 settings. The first 3 are only beep and vibrate, then from 4 up- the correcting gets stronger) After the fifth day I felt he was ready to check it out on his own. I set the correction level at 5 and fastened it to my leg. (Typical male, right?) I wanted to feel what he would possibly feel on the correction. He is a very big boy but he is also a pampered baby. Needless to say, I hardly felt a touch so I was convinced I had wasted my time and money. So later that night I went out with him and he saw a deer in the lower part of the field and he took off after it...the was no yelp, bark or anything but he immediately came back to my side and sat down. I was shocked by this....the next morning we woke up and I went to put the collar on him to go outside and he crawled halfway under the bed. This made me feel awful and I was afraid he was scarred for life. After a day of research I saw this was very common, that I needed to spend more time together outside and get him used to it. So this doesn't turn into a novel, fast forward 6 weeks and he wears the collar like a badge of honor. He knows he can't go outside without it. He knows his boundaries. I only have it set on Beep mode, and he runs and flops and rolls and has free roam and I don't know who's happier-Him-or my wife and I. It has given us complete peace of mind for him to enjoy himself and spend as much time as he wants outside. I think it almost makes him forget about his own queen sized bed inside.
I installed this around about 1.25 acres. One of the spools came apart immediately out of the package, so there went 2-3 hours of trying to untangle wire off the spool. Be careful with that. It comes with 2 silicone connectors to connect to the twisted wire, but you will need more if using more than one length of perimeter wire. Making twisted wire is a nightmare if you need more than a few feet. If you can buy pre-twisted wire, get it. The controller and rechargeable collars are easy to set up. The collars are a challenge if starting with puppies. Because the dog will grow, you won't really know how short to trim the collar, and the excess dangles around. If you have more than one dog, they'll chew on each other's collars and they can't replace just the collar. Overall, system works great.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been super happy with this product! Only negative would be installing it. The unit was very neatly packaged and includes all materials necessary to complete the installation and begin use immediately. Took few hours to set up a safe zone in my yard to keep dogs happily contained. I put this fence in for my German Shephard, so he'd quit roaming the neighborhood. It took 3 days for him to figure it out the boundary. However, it is now working perfectly, to the point that he is in and out like a cat, all day long. The collar is waterproof and very comfortable, with a progressive warning tone. Over all its a Great product! The instructions were very clear, easy to install, and it worked perfectly.
Will make it brief and just list the negatives: Flimsy 20 gauge wire (competitor uses 18) Need to include more (3-4) splices Instructions - especially for the double twist section - seem to be written by someone who is very familiar with the process. It needs to be done from the perspective of someone who is starting from scratch - with no experience.
