My yellow lab had developed into a barker, at about one-year-old. He would bark when we were sitting on our front porch for coffee in the morning, bark at the children walking to school, bark at other dogs etc. Then he would run out his doggie door and bark at “imaginary” things in the backyard, perhaps a squirrel, or an acorn dropping on the roof, fire truck in the distance or another dog barking. He learned very quickly not to bark, we never had to go past level one. He is calmer and responds well to a verbal command, if he looks like he might bark.
We tried 3 other barking collars that all had cheap nylon collar material and a plastic clasp they would all work their way lose and not stay in contact with the dogs neck. This collar with its belt buckle design worked very well!! our dogs are young and barked nonstop until we put these on and both stopped with in about a day!!! now they may bark once and stop if at all. We had almost given up hope... we can get 2 fingers between the collar and the dogs neck and can still have the sensors securely contacting the dogs throat in front as directed
We purchased this unit thru an obedience training company. We know we paid more than we needed to, going through this company, but it doesn't change the results. This is our first day, but I have to sing praises here. We had rescued our Vizsla from a shelter that was not a "no kill" shelter. We are older and didn't know of the breed when we rescued her - they are little balls of energy and for a 48lb dog, she's extremely strong. We had her for 4 months now and worked thru a few major issues, but the barking was out of control. She barked like a wild dog when anyone was at the door, even the grand children that come over every day. She also used to snap at them as they were going out the door. So we had to keep her in kennel when they were here and listen to non-stop barking. The collar was delivered today and she got zapped once - that's all it took, she hasn't tried it again. She's like a new dog and isn't even rushing the door anymore. This collar has saved her from going to another rescue, we were at our wits ends. Thank you! I understand we may still have more issues, but I don't think this will be it. One zap at the lowest setting and she's been an angel - we didn't think we would be able to travel with her, as her barking would hinder us even going into a resteraunt, not a worry anymore. Love it!
Just got the collars they have not been on the dogs for more than an hour and two of the dogs are quiet, the other is now only barking once or twice then stopping, she will learn. We are using three collars for two Jack Russel\Poodle mixes, and one Lab\Springer mix. I am very pleased with the product so far and we have all three on level one. We had the labs collar set to level 2 for the first correction then were able to turn it back to level one. One of the Terriers may need to be turned up to level 2 or need her spring haircut.
I recently purchased a Sportdog fence system and was so impressed with it that I decided to try the Sportdog Nobark 18 collars as well on my 6 month old lab pups. I must say that I am very disappointed in this product. Not only does it not work well, these collars do not work at all! Both of my lab pups are oblivious to the no-bark collars.I have tested both collars and the battery appears to be o.k. To be sure, I replaced both with new batteries and still have very unsatisfactory results. I will be returning these to the store where I purchased them.
Put it on my dog for 12 hours and went to take it off and she had three holes in her neck from the prongs when I put it on her I had my neighbor who has been using them for years help me so we knew it wasn't to tight I am very unhappy with sport dogs products never buying them again
Our Goldendoodle is just over a year old. We purchased an electric fence for him. I installed it, and couldn't be happier with the product. Based on that success, we went ahead and purchased the NOBARK SBC-18. Do NOT waste your money on this! It does not work. The collard is tight to his skin, it is on the third (strongest) setting, and he barks at will with the occasional correction. Absolute junk!
Having happily used the Sportdogs sporthunter 1825 training collar for field training I was quick to choose the nobark 18 from Sportdog against the competition. I like the fact that the correction levels increase steadily and then reset. this is a feature that makes it stand head & shoulders above the rest. Additionally the auto shut off is a feature rarely found on competitors models and whilst it does not fit my exact particular requirements its better than having no shut off feature at all. As with my Sportdog Sporthunter 1825 it feels like a sturdy bombproof little unit and should last well. The rubberized coating on Sportdogs items save many of the scrapes scratches etc. However this Sportdog Nobark 18 scores so badly in my opinion is that the level selection is a raised dial on the outside face of the unit! I have a female dog who does not need a high level of correction so place the dial in the low selection position. this will correct from levels 1 - 6 only. But no! this dial as mentioned before is on the outside of the unit so any rolling over, brushing up against fence, floor, scratching, pretty much anything a dog can do apart from sit in one position has the potential to unwittingly increase the level. On a number of occasions I returned to find this on level III correcting from levels 13 - 18 on a dog that needs no more than low level corrections. On the last occasion she had moved it to level III she was distressed so it will never be used again.
A normal dog scratches... this collar has a button on it that falls out very easily. Sprotdog really did nothing for me other then state the collar was not a good fit for my dog. Go with the rechargeable one.
