This is one utility knife that is actually a quick and easy blade change. I was given another brand of quick change blade utility knife years ago and found it was more of a hassle than it was worth, but this is great and I also like the cord cutter slot. This one is my favorite type...but I always have 3 or 4. My previous ones had been "borrowed"....and not returned. So? I will not be loaning my tools out ever again.
I can't remember ever NOT having one of these on hand. Although I have accumulated several utility knives over the years, the 10-499 has always been the go-to. The heft, grip and balance are just right, with gloves or without. The blade storage magazine and quick change blade feature make this the handiest cutting tool in my kit. I've had two 10-499 knives for over 15 years each and have been very pleased with the quick-change blade mechanism and with the three-position blade extension. I've used it with standard and carpet blades with no problems. I also like that it easily retracts or extends the blade for safe use and storage. After this long the only problem I see is that recently the spare blades have started to tend to work their way out of the holder into the interior of the knife, making it impossible to use the yellow quick-access button. I instead have to take the knife apart to replace a blade. I'm experimenting with whether keeping more blades in the holder helps with this. I also just used WD-40 to lubricate the interior of the knife because the blade extension mechanism was getting difficult. Now it's like I have a brand-new knife. As an inexpensive and rugged utility knife this is a great one.

My husband was tired of having to find a screwdriver in order to change out the blades of his old utility knife. This is perfect for a quick change blade and with storage in the handle too. He loves it!
Easy to find yellow quick change button opens the built in blades holder. It also has a yellow button on the front to lock the blade in place or release it to retract it. Its Also easy to disassemble and re assemble as needed. The built in slotted cutter near the front allows you to slide over items to cut them without the blade exposed. I really like this product. As with all Stanley products, it feels very high quality. The design of the frame feels very comfortable, solid and safe when using the knife. The blade storage is a great feature as well! Thanks Stanley!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The 10-499 is my favorite of the Stanley razor knifes. I have had several over the years and have never gotten the chance to break one because someone always steals it. I love the quick change blade an easy Access blade storage. I would’ve given it five stars except for the fact a couple of times cI would’ve given it five stars except for the fact a couple of times changing the blade it did jam and I had to play with it. And I do like the feature that allows you to cut string or box strapped without exposing the blade. Who ever is in charge of quality control needs to check out why It jams sometimes changes the blades. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
i took it apart to take the cardboard piece off of it. then had to assemble the knife in the proper slot. but i trust the stanley name
