I am so glad I puchased this wastebasket. Not only did my 13 gallon bags fit in it, but I could put three in at a time like my other regular basket. I leave it open during the day for convenience, then shut the top at night. There is no more wasted space in my trash bags. When the top is closed it just looks so neat. I am very happy. It meets all my expections. I had it delivered and I am glad. I don't think the box would have fit in my trunk, so the shipping charge was well worth it. I highly recommend it!!!! I know you will enjoy it.
I like it very much, it's just the right size, even in this tiny apartment. I love the pushbutton opener, makes it so easy. The trashbags I've been buying anyway, are just the right size for it, they were too big for the old wastebasket.
I got this wastebasket when I moved into the first home we bought,,our son was not even a year old,, Years went by,,we moved into our new home,,,,and our son is now in college,,,and our wastebasket stands strong and proud in our kitchen,,,got new clips for it when they wore out,,but this guys is here for the long haul,,,I'm betting someday when my grandkids are born,,,they will end up using it too.
I have had this product for several years. It cleans up easily and is very durable. Recently I lost a spring to the lid and, after sending the company an email, they sent me some springs at no charge.
Love the shape, size, features and durability. I decoupage this and other models for my customers, and they love it. Only problem is that some have accidentally thrown out the pop-up spring, making it cumbersome to use the container.
I'll have to add my two cents to the problem with the springs. I've been coating mine with oil every time I empty the basket but that stiil only postpones the inevitable and once a spring is gone, it's difficult to get the lid open.
The lid broke several times and we could not find a replacement. The lid did not stand the test with three kids under the age of six. It may be good, and probably would work very well with older kids, older people, singles, or DINCs. It looks great and works well when not breaking. But then again, consider the circumstances.
This is the second trash can I have purchased and the same issue has come up again. After some use the lift springs break and the lid stops working.
As the previous reviewer stated, this is a great waste receptacle until the crucial lid springs rust through and break, or pop off and fall into the trash to be lost forever. Then the lid won't pop-up and requires a 2-hand maneuver to push the gray button and push on the top. Sterilte has been great in that I wrote to them and on 2 separate occasions and they kindly sent me 2 new sets of springs for free. However, that's becoming a wee bit of a pain. I now have 3 of these trashcans in the house with non-working lids. My next trash can will definitely be one withOUT springs.
My first trashcan of this type was wonderful. The springs NEVER came out and the lid functioned beautifully. I loved the ease with which it worked and the value of the product. However, when my first can got beat up by my husband banging silverware on the top edge after scraping dishes, I bought a new one. This has been a royal pain since I bought it. The springs pop out constantly, making us have to dig through garbage to find them. We recently discovered that we can tape them in place using packaging tape. This sort of solves the problem but makes it hard to clean the lid. I compared the new lid with my old beat up lid and believe that the problem lies with a difference in the grooves where the spring arms lie. The new lid seems to have a manufacturing problem where the ridges/grooves are out of specs. I am sorry that Sterilite has not addressed this problem. I am frustrated with this product and do not recommend it. I plan to buy a simplehuman kitchen can next. It is pricey but a great product.
