Works great on tough dirt with short weeds and grass. Does a good job of breaking through the top soil so that its relatively easy to rake out weeds and grass. Adding some weight on top of it helps it dig down better. Saved hours of manual labor!
This thing is perfect for small to medium sized tilling projects around the yard. I used it to till some hard packed dead grass areas prior to re-seeding, which it did with ease. Instructions are easy to follow and setting the tiller up was a breeze. Tiller has two tilling depth settings, which are easy to adjust. Unit is far more powerful than it looks, and has plenty of juice for my needs. Be sure to purchase a properly rated extension cord.
Easy out of box set up. Very powerful. Make sure you have correct gauge extension cord, very important. This little tiller has loads of power. Plows through my hard clay nasty soil like nothing. It really does gave some get up to it. Hold on and be ready to see the results! Easy to carry and maneuver. Cord connection is well made and works perfectly. I drape the extension cord over my shoulder to keep it away from the blades. If you are having a tough time getting depth while tilling, just pull back on the machine and it will go in to the earth with ease. Great product, this is my third different piece of equipment these folks and I have been impressed each time. Thank you for selling a reasonably priced item that runs like a champ!
The Sun Joe electric garden tiller was key to a midwest backyard transformation. Determined to complete a recent backyard renovation, I found various conventional gardening tools to be inefficient when working with the hard clay soil of eastern Missouri. After careful thought and reviews of numerous tillers, I chose the Sun Joe for its price, power and satisfied customers' reviews. Having a Mantis 2 cycle gas tiller for our west coast home, I thought an electric unit would be more environmentally friendly and less intrusive on the neighbors. I found the ease of operation, adjustable tilling depths, compact size and weight perfect for all of the various projects. I created many flower beds, an in ground sandbox for my grandson and numerous shrub root and stump removal with ease. I highly recommend this unit, knowing it will enable you to complete your lawn and garden projects with less time and effort. Friends and neighbors have rave reviews for the added interest to what had been a rather plain backyard!
I had to dig a huge plant out and this tiller dugout all the roots and such which finally this plant should be gone. It took two days with shovels and a pick and Sun Joe less than an hour to clean it all up.
The tiller is easy to use and completes the job with no problem. Used it to cultivate an area of about 170 sq. ft. for planting new seed. This is all we have used it for at this point. We did buy an extended 2 year warranty although it comes with 2 years and an additional 90 days if registered online.
My tiller works with minimum of effort, almost as it will work alone.Has the power to get even the hardest job done. It was easy to assemble less than five minutes ,easy to read instructions.
I am tilling and amending the soil for new grass, front and back and flower gardens. Because I live in So-Cal I have decided to plant grass that best suits our dry climate. I considered renting a tiller but have a very large project and want to take my time and do it right. One of the problems with a house built in the early 40's is that there have been prior owners who for some reason had 1 inch river rock on both side and back yards. The sides, I understand but the backyard, a mystery. I tilled a 20' x 25' foot section of the backyard and will repeat until the yard is completed. There were rocks, lots of them and the tiller bucked but didn't break. I would till a 3' x 20' section, remove rocks and keep doing this until I was 8 inches down and move to the next section. I was amazed how strong the tiller was. Today I ordered new tins, just to have in case I need them. But this tiller is still going strong and the tins look great. I would recommend this tiller.
What a little power house and work horse! As a female, it felt like it was going to rip my arms off, which once I figured out how to handle it, it worked out okay. I would like information in the owner's manual about replacement part numbers, so I know exactly which parts to order. The first use, yesterday, bent a blade on a big rock that was buried under ground. I couldn't see it. I just moved from the south where soil is sandy to the north where it's red clay and rocky. I wasn't sure this little gem could handle the load. It certainly did and now that I know I can adjust the wheels it should do even better! For the problems I had- I would say, making the handle grips/handle bars adjustable so short people can use it as well, would be nice. Also, the handle grips are way too bulky, thick, large to hold on to for smaller hands and the trigger switch is too far forward making it difficult to hold onto, if you have smaller hands as well, especially while the tiller bouncing, vibrating and in movement causing me to accidentally release the trigger switch repeatedly which is annoying. Also, I ended up being in a LOT of pain from how difficult it is to hold on to these large, bulky handle grips while trying to till each row, causing me to have to take several breaks and that reduces productivity. I have deducted a star for all of these reasons. I've just broken ground on my 30x15 garden bed and plan to do more! Overall, I recommend it. Even with the pain it causes from the awkward handle grips, I still love it. Including photos! Note: The soil appears black however, it is red clay as you can see in my neighbors garden in one of the photos. The reason mine appears darker is because the previous owners had several horses here which enriched/amended the soil and made it much more fertile than my neighbor, but trust that it is in fact red clay. (Nevermind- Sun Joe will not allow me to add photos.)
Don't be afraid to buy this tiller, I dug this trench in North Carolina Clay in less than 30 minutes, Plenty of power, don't try to overwork it, It will do the work for you. I didn't have a lot of rock in the soil, but the one's that I did find it threw out. A couple of fist sized. Can't go wrong for the money if you are just working around the yard. I am truly impressed and would recommend this product. The only down side is keeping up with the cord. But hey, no gas or oil to mess with. It will get plenty of use in this houshold.
