does what it is designed to do

I use it after I shower. In that way, I'm more relaxed and the torso (foam) rollers won't get all pitted out. I use a handheld digital count down timer, like a kitchen timer. I start with zero resistance, set the timer for one minute, and add one "click' of resistance per minute, for fifteen minutes MAX. After fifteen minutes, I tuck my chin into the chest, resist with my feet, and release the ratchet mechanism. I do not get up immediately. I perform a variety of five slow yoga-type stretches for one minute each before I get back onto my feet. I intend to continue this program of decompression every evening before bed for as long as I can. I have performed considerable research and I believe this unit absolutely provides the best value for the money, compared with similar back decompression devices you see advertised online. Although it is by no means a panacea, this apparatus does what it is designed to do, which is to provide a measured dose of mechanical disc decompression with accuracy and precision. True, the bench is not terribly comfortable, but it is intended to be therapeutic, not a massage chair. Please be aware, however, that if you are six feet in height or taller, you will need to purchase the more expensive version of this unit, the kind that comes equipped with the 'three-position' adjustable length torso roller arms. This Sunny unit features the less expensive 'fixed-length' torso roller arms and if you are a tall person with long arms, you will simply not be able to reach the ratchet crank lever once you are in position and you begin your treatment session. An added bonus is that I have noticed an increase in the range of motion of my feet and ankles, since the passive supine hyper-contraction of the feet and ankles provided by this unit typically is not achievable by any other type of health & fitness equipment that I am currently aware of. I wholeheartedly recommend this product if you suffer from chronic hip and/or low back pain and your physician or therapist says that it is OK for your particular needs. Just tell your doctor that the Sunny bench is basically just a new millennium version of the old-fashioned torture rack, minus the proverbial deep dungeon with the obligatory hooded executioner.

Good device for a good price

This was easy to assemble and is sturdier than it appears at first glance. The instructions could be better in terms of the size of the print and usage of the device but it wasn't too difficult to figure out. I've used it a number of times for lower back pain and there has been some improvement already.

When this product arrived I noticed it was missing a tiny spring button for setting the ankle holders in place. Between Walmart and Sunny Health, the tiny part arrived in a few days. In the meantime I had just used two black zip ties to fix the ankle holders at the right position for me, and I think that this is the best solution. This product works very well, but you should realize that too much of a stretch is not good. The range is 8 inches (which is way too much) and it takes 24 clicks of the handle to get there. I am 5'10" tall, and I start out with two or three clicks while listening to soothing music and relaxing. Then I add a click little by little until I get to 5 clicks which is around 1.6 inches, and leave it there . I use a kitchen timer to set my session to around 10 to 15 minutes and then slide my feet out of the ankle holders and just lay there with my knees bent so my back is flat for a couple of minutes. This is followed by a hot shower, concentrated on my back ( Kneeling on hands and knees ) . I started out doing it once a day but have cut down to once every other day. I also do some light stretching exercises that I got from a physical therapist, as well. My range of motion is better, I can pick things up off of the floor with no discomfort etc. With this appliance, MORE of a stretch is definitely NOT better. Use caution and common sense. MB

Great value for a horizontal back stretcher.

The Sunny back stretcher can be compared to the one sold Sky Mall. The good: The product was easy to assemble and took me 15 minutes approximately. All tools were supplied. The price of the product is about 1/2 the price of the one sold at Sky Mall branded under a different name etc. Back rest is sturdy. The adjustable traction lever cranks in just enough increments to be effective. The not so good: The back stretcher is sturdily built up to the height adjustable slider which is on small wheels. The slider is a bit wobbly but can be mitigated by keeping legs and feet straight while lying down. Some people may complain their feet slide out of the foot pads. The adjustable foot pad is missing a couple of washers to lock it in place so your feet do not slide out. The washers can be found cheap at a local hardware shop but still a tad annoying they were not all included. Overall: Good product for a daily horizontal back stretch (mostly lower back - however this is where my problems usually are). More serious back issues may need a chiropractor. Price is good.

I recently purchased the Sunny Fitness Therapy Stretcher and was unable to complete assembling of the product because the Foot Rest receiver pin was not installed which locks down to hold the feet. The parts list shows that the receiver pin is attached to the Foot Rest receptacle and not an item the consumer attaches. I have sent a previous email to Sunny Fitness asking for assistance on this matter and have yet received a reply.

Foot holder, does not hold the feet in place. It should lock them in place when you do the stretching. Poor design. Nice idea.
