How many of the bad reviews were from people who did not use the instructions for their altitude?? It is a real thing. For people who can't comprehend: ONCE THE COOKING TIME IS OVER, TURN OFF THE HEAT SOURCE AND LET THE PRESSURE CANNER COOL DOWN. (That is when the pressure drops!!!!) Instructions are a good thing, people.
Hi quality and well worth investment.
This thing is perfect, easy to use, and has worked for my purposes (canning jams and sterilization of mushroom substrates). Every listing I've ever seen clearly states you need a gas or electric range, aka the ability to transfer enough heat to the pressure cooker to create pressure via heating water. T-Fal is incapable of altering the laws of physics, so if you have an electric/glass cooktop, buy a smaller pressure cooker or purchase a separate gas burner for your canning needs.
I have a Glass Top Stove, and I have to boil water, and keep the lid on the canner in order to get my water in my canner to boil. If I keep the lid secured and take it off when my pots of boiling water are poured in, it works. I really like this canner, just sucks I have to boil water to pour in and cover to get it to be hot enough to boil. I also had an issue with the Psi not getting up to 10 lbs, and I canned it at 9. I hope itll be okay if I use the green beans soon.
I failed to check the stoves that would work with this cooker/canner. I have a glass top and have been using the canner many times. The problem is that when I set the valve to 2 which is 10 lbs of pressure, it only comes up to 8.5 on the dial gauge. I don't know whether I am supposed to go by the valve pressure (10 lbs) or by the dial gauge. Because I have been concerned about making sure I bring it up to the proper pressure, I set the valve to 3 and watch the pressure then go from 8.5 on 2 to above 11. I have to adjust the dial on the stove so that it does not go too high. I try and keep it from 11-12. I can at the appropriate time and take it off the burner when the time has elapsed and let it cool naturally. After the dial gauge has dropped to zero and the red pen has dropped, I remove the lid and take out the jars. They have all passed the test for the lid being secure. So far so good.
I finally got around to using my pressure cooker/canner and I'm not particularly happy with the result. The basic operation is simple. I've used an Instant Pot for several years now, so twist the lid into place, the lid lock valve closes after enough steam builds, etc. However I was canning and I needed 10 pounds of pressure. According to the manual, that should have been "1" on the dial. "1" on the dial topped out at 5 pounds. "2" on the dial moved up to about 7 or 8 pounds. "3" on the dial took it to about 12 pounds which was more than I needed. I'm left wondering whether the valve (1/2/3) was misbehaving or whether the pressure gauge was incorrect. 10 pounds is kind of minimal, so if I need more, I'm out of luck. I don't know what I will do.
I purchased this 22 qt pressure canner/cooker to use for canning items out of my garden. I prepared 44 lbs of pumpkin to can, and couldn't get the pressure cooker to pressurize. No matter how high my stove was - turns out one thing that was failed to be mentioned is it is NOT compatible with my stove top type. I have a glass top electric stove - like most of the newer appliances. This item (per the book) will only work with a Gas or Electric Coil stovetop. Not only did I waste the money to purchase the item, I now have 44 lbs of pumpkin that cannot be sealed safely as I don't have another stove top option. Compatible heat sources should be in Large print on the item box or in the advertisement when searching for an item.
I love the pot but apparently I can't use it. I have a glass top stove. The video for this pressure cooker shows the pot on a glass top stove. I finally splurged and bought it. I was looking forward to using it. So Disappointing.
Please be fully aware that this canner does not allow the gauge to be tested. If you purchase this canner, you will not know if your pressure gauge is accurate and will not be able to safely pressure can your food.
Bought this a month ago and finally used it a week ago. Luckily I have a gas stove because to get 15 psi I had to set my stove to high and keep it on high the entire cook time. On setting #3, supposedly 15 psi, the valve started releasing steam at only 12 psi, which is why I had to raise the heat. But now I'm loosing steam needed for sterilizing. What a waste of money
