Easy to use complete kit
Activation process is a little bit inconvenient. Started entering detail at the site, then something was missing and had to call and enter all the details again. Otherwise is good.
After reading the other reviews I had worried I would have to take the activation kits back to Walmart to be activated at a register or something going wrong. That didn't happen. I received the kits within 3 days, put the sim in my phones and followed all the instructions that came with it. It was a very easy process to do online. Took 5 minutes and I had full service. They offered many prepaid plans to choose from! I opted to the $30/month unlimited text, 5gb of data and 100 minutes of talk time that is a Walmart/T-Mobile only deal. You can only get it by purchasing a kit or phone through Walmart. I was paying a heavy amount each month for two lines ($200) and needed a plan that fit better to me. I don't talk on the phone much but I am a heavy text/data user. This plan was perfect for me and the cheapest which made my wallet happy! I opted to get my other line the $40 plan that is unlimited talk/text and 3gb of data since he talks more with little data usage. Our monthly phone bill went from $200 to $70 a month! There is a step in the activation process to port your phone number over from a different carrier. We chose to keep our numbers. Last, the last step asks you to refill your account. The kits come with $40 of airtime but no refill code/pin. THIS IS AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED TO YOUR ACCOUNT! There is no need to put in a code or purchase more at this step. If you are unsure like I was, dial #BAL# in your phone and it'll confirm your $40 was used. I had the $30 plan and there was a $10 credit. If you're still unsure, create an account on T-Mobile website and it'll tell you your plan is good till next month. Overall, I am very pleased how easy this whole process was. Didn't need to call customer service or make unnecessary trips to Walmart. Both lines activated in 5 minutes. Haven't had any issues with service! Very happy!
Bought this starter SIM because AT&T (h2owireless actually) dropped their 2G support and the GPS tracker installed in my car stopped working. T-Mobile says they have no plans to turn off their 2G network any time soon. So, to activate the SIM, just go online and follow the directions. Install in your device. Easy Peasy. (Ignore if/when it says you have to add airtime, it's already in your account.) Only problem came when I had to confirm a code sent to the tracker (which is under my dashboard, with no screen on it) in order to link my online account to the phone number. NO WAY. Customer service can't even help here. BUT, turns out that I could program my tracker to forward the confirmation code to my regular cell phone (important info is that T-Mobile system text messages originate from "456" and setting my GPS Tracker to forward messages from that number works great). Note that you can also use a 'regular' T-Mobile or unlocked cell phone (with the SIM in it) to receive the confirmation code, assuming you have such a spare phone lying around. Just swap the SIM out temporarily, then swap it back. Next 'issue' is the $40 airtime. I was concerned that it would have a 90 day expiration date. In fact, it does expire in 90 days. On the $3/mon Pay As You Go plan, there's no way to use up $40 of $ credit in 90 days. The un-written (good) catch here is that every 30 days, when the 'system' deducts $3 from your balance, the 'use by' date on the remaining balance pushes out to 90 days again. This works out great! Effectively your balance won't expire before you use it up. You can see this by logging in at ma.web2go.com (a T-Mobile site), where you can SEE your 'use by' date on your remaining balance. It's not shown on the regular my.t-mobile.com account page. My only gripe so far is that every unanswered call goes to voice mail and you're charged for a call. I haven't found a way to turn off voice mail. Also, wrong number or spam text messages also eat up your credit, and you can't do anything about that either. I think that's mostly 'luck of the draw' for your phone number and who had it before you got it.
Exactly what I needed.. Didn't receive in 2 days but I received a $5 gift card thru my email
Worked perfectly - when I called to activate the sim card and asked how to load the minutes they were already loaded and I was set.
ITEM WAS PERFECT AND WORKED WITH THE PHONE WITHOUT ANY WORRIES
Good
Received package in good condition. Installed SIM card and activated my phone. No problem worked beautifully.
I had bought this kit thinking it would be easier for me to set up on my new phone. The SIM card itself was fine and I was able to get it in my phone and activate it on-line. HOWEVER, the $40 of airtime included had an invalid code. So, I wasn't able to use it. I contacted T-Mobile and asked for help, the representative said that I needed to return the product to Wal-Mart for a refund. I contacted a Wal-Mart representative and he said that in order to get the refund I needed to return the entire kit (including the activated SIM card). The return itself was easy and smooth (at my local Wal-Mart). Now I have my phone and need to get a new SIM card. I would strongly suggest NOT buying the combined kit (SIM + airtime). There is a possibility the airtime code will be expired/invalid. That makes things a bit of a pain to exchange when the SIM is working fine, but still needs to be replaced.
