Powerful Sound, Elevated Craftsmanship With the rebirth of the 800 series, Andy Powers, the designer/luthier behind these instruments, sought to highlight the distinctive characteristics and unique acoustic voice of each different body shape. These refinements include customized bracing and wood thicknesses for each style—to bring out the best tonal qualities, as well as animal protein glue adhesive for superb tonal transfer, and a thinner gloss finish. The Grand Orchestra body of the 818e is crafted from a Sitka spruce soundboard that's beautifully complemented by Indian rosewood back and sides. Combined with completely revoiced bracing, the 818e has more power and a more dynamic range. Groundbreaking Expression System 2 Electronics Capturing far more sound than ever before, Taylor's Expression System 2 electronics features a behind the saddle pickup design. The pickup has three specially positioned acoustic sensors. This revamping of the classic piezo pickup takes acoustic amplification to a new realm of clarity and tone. Refreshed Design Aesthetic This tastefully appointed 818e Grand Orchestra makes use of some of the finest materials available—the body, peghead, fingerboard and heelcap are all bound by pale maple with a matching pale maple back strip to add a nice touch. To showcase the rosewood-rich heritage of the 800 series and the wood's natural beauty, the 818e is adorned with stunning rosewood accents which includes rosewood trim along the top edge, a gorgeous rosewood pickguard that's perfectly matched with back and sides, and a stunning green abalone rosette outlined with rosewood. The neck of the Taylor 818e is topped off with a light-marbled ebony fingerboard. The fingerboard boasts elegant mother-of-pearl Element fingerboard inlays that were inspired by the diamond-like shape of the various 800 series inlays over the years. For a beautiful glossy luster without sacrificing tonal response, the body of the 818e is all dressed up in a 3.5 mils full-gloss finish that's over 40 percent thinner.
