I'm using the filter with a 4200 gph pump in an 1800 gallon pond with lots of koi fish. I have had no problems with the water unless i over feed the fish or it gets really hot for a few days, then i do a 10% water change in the pond. I do water test regularly for ammonium, ph, etc.. And this filter keeps the water at a stable level. You must treat your pond as if it were a big aquarium, same precautions and principles apply to a pond. You must also have lotsnof shade or pond plants on the pond.
I am on my 4th year with this filter and I am very pleased. I have a 1,700 gallon pond and I am pushing about 3,600 gph through it. When I backwash every month I get a healthy load of "dirt" out of this beast and at the end of the season I really see what has been filtered out and it is ugly. It takes me about two hours to clean it well but it is definitely worth it. Ask my fish!
I have 3 large turtles (red eared sliders) and goldfish - this filter keeps the water clean. It is difficult to put back together when cleaning it or storing for the winter. The o-ring and top of the filter with the clamps requires me to get someone to help me! Other than that customer service has been awesome with replacement parts. THANK YOU!
Had the pump running for several months. Came home one day to see my pond half empty. Water was leaking from the top seal. Not sure where to get a replacement seal.
IF ITS POSSIBLE TO GET SPARE PARTS THIS IS NOT REALLY AN ISSUE BUT IF NOT THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE CLEANING THE BAND AROUND THE TOP THE BLOCK WHICH MAINTAINS THE TENSION HAS SHEARED OFF
bought this bio-active 2500 filter in july of 2018. it works great, easy to maintain, backflush function works, never have to open unit. BUT the canister part was split at the bottom when i went to hook it up this spring! I did totally empty the canister last fall, so there was no freezing issue. It just split at the bottom of the canister, so filter is useless after less than a few months in service (july to oct) extremely disappointed---buyer beware
I won't use these. Too expensive and they don't keep my pond clean. My gravity fed bio-filter with 3 filter pad works alot better. Easier to clean too.
The idea that you can turn a valve and purge the filter of the dirty water sound nice, but works poorly. I have to rock the whole unit back and forth to stir the dirt off the bottom if I want to get it out. I am going back to my gravity filters.
The idea you can turn a valve and clean the filter and pond of dirty water sounds nice but has not worked for my pond. Lots of dirty water flows back into the pond when I cycle the valve. Haven't had a clear pond water yet since I installed filter months ago. Just doesn't clean water like bio-filter did. Also, backflush valve continually leaks in closed position. Tetrs bio-filter worked better.
The filter works great .... until you move the filter to change. All three of my water inlet/outlet pieces broke, my mom had 2 break on her. I also had a clip form the lid break just by opening the top and we had the product less than a year. Now that we have been searching aimlessly for parts we found a coupe of websites....the one that was on the filter instructions does not seem to exist anymore. So frustrated with the fact that we found a reasonable filter that did the job, by a big company, and we have had a ton of troubles with it. I would not recommend unless you know where you can get replacement parts for it.
