Bought this for winter. Well, we had the worst winter weather in years. Set records for temperatures. Negative 45 below zero with the wind chill. Water around the de-icer never froze. Great product. I am super happy
Really love this heater for my pond. Sadly shorted out after a year so contacting customer service. But happy it did it's job over the winter!
I have owned 3 of these. I have had two get water in it. I was close to my 3 yr warranty and no receipt but had box and tetra pond replaced with no questioned asked. The one they warranties two years ago was a different problem but after two years I have water in this one now. Just called cust svc and they are sending a new one out but with no further warranty. The warranty is based on original purchase. But they did a one time courtesy so tetras cust svc is #1. I asked about water problem if anything being corrected to solve issue and she that would be an engineering concern. I am going to write the company regarding the issue. If the deicer fills with water I will probably try a different brand. For now I'll stand by tetrapond. Love the deicer.
Works for a season then fills with water just into next winter. After that it trips out the ground fault.
60 degree water in January. Now I feed the fish because they are active. Already returned one. Junk
i purchased this product in october 2010. it worked great last winter season. when the weather got cold again this year and i put the de-icer into the pond it didn't do anything. the pond iced over and i had difficulty getting the deicer out of the frozen ice. i am hoping tetra stands behind their product and upholds their warranty. i did buy another deicer for this year hoping for a better result while i wait for tetra to uphold their warranty on the first item. my pond is only about 120 gallons with 3 goldfish
Purchased the unit two seasons ago, of course, didn't save my receipt. I only needed it the first season, needed it last year and it did not work. Literally literally used it two times. I tried Support and the unit is actually four years old. Waste of money.
We bought and used the deicer for half of last winter. After our first cold snap this year, we woke to find it frozen in the ice. After poring hot water on it to remove it, I touched the underside and it was not even warm. I know it was getting power as that same outlet is used for our aerator. Now I have to pay to send a faulty unit back but even that does me no good as we need a heater NOW to save our fish - not in weeks from now. As I read various reviews online, way too many people have had this same problem. It is clear this is a poorly made deicer and Tetra should stop selling it.
I dont' just go by one review when I purchase something so the negative review didn't scare me off... it should have however. Mine is stuck in the pond after it quit working and now with this sub zero weather I won't get it out until Spring probably. I am buying another more reliable one #I hope# but it probably won't be anyting from Tetra.
I've owned a few of these for a small pond close to my house. They all work good but eventually they leak water which trips the breaker. To me the plastic top seals right at the waterline. Each one leaks water right there. Either a bad design or a money making design. Thumbs down.
