Buy Thrift NOW and keep it under you sink before you need it. The smaller bottle is perhaps sufficient, but this being my second time I needed it, I got the big container to save money in the long run. Use HOT water and follow directions. I had a kitchen sing clog that was a beast! I plunged and then rented a snake and failed, and then rented a longer snake and failed, then gave up and called the plumber. He also snaked it with no results and then he got Thrift out of his truck. A few minutes later the drain was cleared. Truth.
works in one minute just like it says 🤓
Product was delivered in good condition and works as expected to help clear out sink and tub drains. Pipes do drain noticeably better. Follow all directions carefully. Wear nitrile or latex gloves when using. Ensure space is well ventilated or leave space once product is activated.
I had to have my drain cleaned out as it often plugged with kitchen grease, potato water, pasta water etc. Now it runs great with this product used every other month!
This stuff is amazing! It's the only thing that unclogged my kitchen drain. The clog was so bad that the water was nearly to the top of my sink. I used this in standing water and poured a boiling pot of water in my sink. Overnight, it cleared the drain. In my bathroom, it cleared a sluggish drain within minutes. I'll never be without this!
Thrift is lye in pebble form. Thrift was almost solely and still is primarily available in plumbing supply shops. There is a reason for that. This stuff works! Water must be flowing so handle it before it is 100% clogged. Be sure to heat the pipes and it's better to use boiled water to pour in after you put it in the drain. The hotter the water the better it works, but hot tap water will work also. It will not eat the pipes like sulfuric acid. You can get lye mixed with aluminum powder at any hardware store, but I prefer this. There are some videos on Youtube.
This isn't your mom's old can of drain cleaner. Thrift works FAST. No waiting. We don't even use the generous amount of product called for in the directions, using only about a 1/4 cup per drain as needed. Within a minute or two the drain is cleared.
Works well. Seems to be easier on the system than traditional cleaners. It is described as safe for septic and sewer because it is only activated by hot water, and inert when cool. It is very clearly activated by hot water, as described, but I cannot attest whether or not it becomes inert again when cooled. It works better when there is some water flow, since it is difficult to get the hot-water-activated solution where it needs to be otherwise. However, with microwave-heated water in a pitcher I was also able to get it to work with a more completely clogged drain.
I've tried several other chemicals and snakes and this by far is the easiest way to unclog a drain. You need to start with a dry sink or tub for this to work since you need to pour on really hot water to activate. If your sink or tub already has water in it, this product will not help unless you remove/vacuum all the water out first. Highly recommend!
This stuff managed to clear an impossible blockage in a lavatory sink drain caused by the A/C condensation algae buildup that had been pushed further down the drain line. I used a full 16 oz. of the Thrift and about a gallon of HOT water. Took about 5 minutes to work.
