It does everything that it was advertised to do. It is a bit complicated, but I am completely satisfied.
I've had an older 5" TomTom and used it daily about 5 years. The sound quit several months ago and the latest updates were too large to fit, so I purchased this 6" unit. Installed it yesterday and have got it pretty much down now. My observations: The extra one inch does make installing it more of a challenge in my Toyota Avalon as the curvy dash and dash top have many tiny bumps. So the only place I can use it is on the windshield. I tried several different places and the best is right up against the roof so the sun doesn't hit the screen. I had no problems connecting to my Tracfone Android phone and it stays on all the time with bluetooth. I do NOT have to re-log in each time I start the car. I updated the 6/2014 map first night (took 15 hrs here at the motel) and now have the 10/2014 map. Navigation is fairly easy compared to the older TomTom. Don't know about Magellen as I've never owned one. Manual is a download. If it doesn't ask you to download it when you set up your account just get it off the internet. Good manual and easy to navigate. Some of the features on my older TomTom are no longer available but they are not missed. I like being able to 'save' my trip as many of mine are done monthly. Enter it once, save and name it, and it's always there. The 3D works with buildings in large cities. If you are in a rural area you won't see anything different. A major gripe on the TomTom site is the time the downloads take. Best advice is to do it with a wired connection in your own home. Here in a motel I get maybe 50K speed as I'm sharing with everyone else. Shouldn't take more than two hours. I can set the size of the type large or small which is a nice feature. No more yellow VW Bug - just the triangle to indicate your position. Oh well - the VW was fun while it lasted. Ordered thru Walmart with site-to-store and received it in about 4 working days.
MyDrive which is available only from TomTom allows one to customize the route. I have used other route devices (GPS, OnStar, VZ Navigator) and there is a common problem. One cannot modify the route with knowledge only the user would know such as weather, or scenic parts of a long route, or avoiding going through Canada to get to Vermont, etc. Other GPS devices only give choices such as Fastest and Shortest. TomTom does that, but by connecting to PC one can modify the route and download it back to the GPS unit. The unit itself is good as the display appears quite readable but a bit washed out when compared to other devices.
Perfect balance of features and price, this unit includes almost all of the features of the Go 600 at a more reasonable price. Full functionality once you upgrade the operating system to the latest version online and free map updates every three months for life. Excellent traffic rerouting is especially important & helpful when you are in unfamiliar territory.
Seems every minute or so when on a freeway with many exits this machine keeps a constant stream of stay in the left lane . It gets extremely irritating after a while. Other than that it works well. I am hoping to find somewhere in the instruction manual on how to correct this. Being this is the first time I used it I have great hopes.
I have had TomTom GPS units before. I chose this model as a replacement for one that was dropped one time too many, and cracked. On reason was that it came with lifetime traffic updates. When it arrived, the box stated 'Lifetime Traffic via Smartphone'. Had the online description mentioned the smartphone, I would have selected a different model, because I do not currently have a smartphone.
I have 10 TomToms. I use them in my company for each driver. I can only update 1 per e-mail address. This makes it impossible to use these in my fleet as they are all company owned and need to be registered under the company's ownership. Very discouraging, looks like I may have to go to a different company for my GPS's, even though they all like the TomToms.
It shows that there is no battery... I have not had time to complain and get a replacement! and no... we have had it plugged in... does not charge... just acts like there is no battery! You would think that it had to pass a quality control of some sort!
I bought this GPS because it received a lots of good reviews so I decided to get this one because include Mexico maps and I travel a lots of time to Mexico. When I received, I configured all the setups that request the GPS and I found that i takes too much time to respond. No too much features as a Garmin GPS. I used one time and works very good but that disappoint me it was the fact that it takes to much time to respond. If this GPS responded as soon I touch the screen I definitely I'll keep it, but sorry TomTom, not this time.
I use the Go 60 on a daily basis. I worked good right out of the box but that is as far as it went. And I have to tell you the thing that is needed most is available the least, at least during the daylight hours. I don't know how you folks in the west and southwest are getting on with yours but mine seems to lose screen clarity as the sunlight brightens and the weather get hotter. Not very easy to navigate with the device sitting in you lap and about the only place it is somewhat visible. Wish the actual speed image was white on a black background until I was over the speed then change the background to red. I have tried every setting on the device and placed it just about everywhere in viewing range in the car but to no avail. And I have turned the brightness control all the way up but that doesn't help either. Guess I am stuck with it though as I don't have the box or receipt any longer. Garmin your next, have you gotten rid of that annoying "Recalculating" feature?
