Best plumbing product I've used...

Had to change out a water heater this weekend and of course, none of the water connections lined up. I didn't really have time to rebuild all the copper and sweat all those connections so I thought I would give these a try, simplest, most effective product I've used on a plumbing project... test fit, cut pipe, sanded burrs and slipped right into place. No leaks... amazing!!

Works, then you get black rubber pieces in tub.

Easy to install, worked for a couple years. Then gf tried to take a bath and a bunch of black rubber stuff came out of the faucet, then all the other faucets with the hot water side. Traced it back to the shark bite connection from hot water heater. Replaced with 2 corrugated steel lines, but I replaced the black rubber washer with 2 red ones (supposedly for high water temps, as the Home Depot Employee stated). First time over tightened and blew out the 2 washers, replaced and didn't tighten down as much and seems to be leak free.

Failed after 9 months

We installed a new water heater and the plumber used the sharkbite quick connectors. We needed to turn the temperature up on the water heater to 140° so that it would flow through the house. The shark bite connection then began to fail and sent small rubber pieces throughout the water system. We replaced both of the shark bites with straight copper connections.

poor long term performance

After the fact review: I used these braided connectors for my water heater in 2011. The installation was easy and there were no leaks however the interior of the lines failed and contaminated my entire hot water heater and hot water supply to the home with black residue from the inside rubber lining. A plumber alerted me to the issue which he had seen before. I had to replace the water heater in 2017 and used the sharkbite stainless corrugated lines and am hoping to be able to flush my system. This is a warning to anyone thinking of using braided lines: Don't.

Rubber in my water

I got a new water heater installed by a plumber 8 months ago and he used this shark bite hose. This hose is already breaking down. I replaced my shower head filter today and found large deposits of rubber. Other people here claimed years of use before this issue would arise and some said this company fixed the issue in 2013. It's 2021 and I can tell you this issue is not fixed and is now leaving rubber residue on my family when they shower and on the dishes I wash!

Black gunk in my tub

Reviewed in the USA on 2016-12-16T16:00:00

Installed by contractor. Six months later black gunk comes out into the tub only when the hot water is on. The rubber lining in the hose broke down. The black gunk looks powdery and floats on water. It sticks to the side of the tub forming a ring around the water level smears on the side of the tub when you wipe it.

Hot Water Heater supply connectors - Don't Buy!

Unfortunately, the chlorine in your water will deteriorate the rubber lining inside the flex hoses after a year or two. Within two years, I had rubber flecks inside a new hot water tank and coming out my bath tub faucet. These cause a problem in plugging up faucet aerators and washing machine supply valves... we had to have a new supply valve installed in our washing machine. I replaced the flex hoses with copper pipe and the problem went away. This has happened to quite a few others...just do an internet search. SharkBite should take this type off the market!

DO NOT BUY! They deteriorate after a few years

DO NOT BUY! The black rubber on the inside in these will deteriorate after a few years and start to chunk off. The black rubber will chunk off into your drinking water and when it gets into your bathtub it smears and is impossible to clean off. These should be recalled! No where does it say that these are not permanent and need to be replaced every few years. Absolute garbage!

black pieces flow out of hot water

my bath tab hot water comes with black rubber pieces, and after long time diagnosis, the only possible explanation is that the black rubber pieces come from the Shark bite water heater connector
