I got this unit last year and used it in our front room for extra heat. It works good, simple, Hang it in the window, support it, load it, and press the button. you have to let it get hot first before turning it up on high, or the fire will go out. I recommend this for a small area. Once you learn the way it operates, you will like it. clean out the ashes every few days for best performance.
I purchased this unit because of the high cost of heating oil. I wanted to save money. I'm very satisfied. I'm heating my house for about $3 a day now. It keeps the place toasty warm. It has five settings but even when the outside temperature is in the low 20's I'm still running on the lowest setting. My home is small (860 square foot twin), and it is well over 70 degrees in most parts of the house when running. I have to shut it down twice a day and dump ash out of the burn pot (takes about 2-3 minutes of my time). Different brands of pellets have a great influence on performance. If the pellets are longer than 3/4 inch they might jam the feed mechanism. Try to use premium hardwood pellets (do some online pellet research). Follow the maintenance schedule for trouble free operation. The manufacturer provides excellent product support. My first unit was faulty and they got me a replacement unit the same day I reported the problem. Only problems I've had were feed jams due to a certain brand of pellets (I stopped using that brand and the problem went away) and sometimes on start up I get much smoke and what sounds like backfires - this happens when I take the burn pot outside to clean it and put it back in the stove when the metal is ice cold from being in the cold air. Cleaning it inside or warming it up before starting fixed that problem too.
The stove had a crack in the platic frame of the door and the glass of the stove inside window also was cracked in half. Now I gave it 1 star since I assume ups had dropped it maybe. I checked the shipping tracker and saw that it was transfered 5 times by UPS. Also it is fairly heavy and requires two people to do the lifting. The side cover for a larger window seem thin and not able to keep out air.
