Live in an area where choices are limited and this fills in a void quite well. Handles all video from Direct TV- Netflix - Prime along with running 2- I-Pads, 2 Lap top and 3 Ring devices. Switched ver from a velocity as we need a device that could handle more systems. Was able to grandfather in on a pricing program that made this a no brainer
I got this device about a month ago but it wasn't until last week that I started using it. My experience up to this point has been fenomenal! Drove from South TX to Northern MN and never lost signal. Working from my RV has been a dream that finally came true. So fat so good/excellent.
For the money, this hotspot rocks for traveling. Great range and 4 MIMO antennas + input for external - though that cuts MIMO in half - real 5G is still sparsely available, so until it is, there's no reason to pay twice as much for a hotspot that can't use the bandwidth yet.
Works great out of the box. Just have one little issue. Not much of a range when trying to connect multiple devices. The range is about 15ft. Bought a range extender to increase the range. It has TS-9 connectors which are flimsy at best. Doesn't seem to do anything for the range. Out of the box is great, but good range.
I was hesitant about ordering a used unit but wasn't sure if it would be any better than the hotspot from cellular store and didn't want to waste any more money than necessary. THIS THING IS AWESOME! The signal and performance is leaps and bounds better than the turbo plus! We can now stream without buffering and the item was like new! Highly recommend!!!!
Ok, First thing I should add is that I also bought and used the antenna which you can get for this. Never really used it without so I can't comment on it's connectivity without it - but if you are going to get it it strikes me as a given you would use it with the antenna (which can be stuck to a window). I feel I've used this in all circumstances as I have to move around a lot for work, and I can't tolerate a connection that is below 20MBit/s and expect the norm to be much higher. Fortunately I can say that this is the case in the areas I've used it. One place I stayed literally within line of sight of a rural 4G tower, and got nearly 100MBit/S most of the time (so no MIMO in this case I'm fairly sure, just a single strong connection was delivering that - if you had strong connections to multiple 4G towers then I suspect it would deliver even higher). In other locations where there may be multiple connections but no decent 4G it never drops below 20MBit/s but often manages 40+ even if it says it's only 3G. I've also used the Ethernet port to connect it to a router to cover an entire house in preference do the standard ADSL which was available there. I've never been forced to use it where there was little or no coverage, but in such a case I can hardly expect a fast connection anyway. My plan is unlimited fortunately, so when I get home I add it to my network set up to offload data - although with an unlimited plan I don't need to worry as it may as well be a parallel connection, and it has noticeabley boosted my (already fast) connection. It's fairly straightforward to use, you access it's settings though a browser and app, although more can be refined through a browser connection on a PC. The only downside is that on it's own it provides a fairly weak WiFi hotspot - so unless you're close (in which case you may as well be wired to it by Ethernet or USB unless you need multiple connections) it's only going to work well for a house if you add a router - but then, provided you have the mobile connection, it can be very good. I realise unlimited data plans are expensive or unusual at a lower cost, but if you lived near a 4G tower this (connected to a router) would challenge most VDSL connections (or fiber to the cabinet, copper last mile - or in my case 200 yards, I can see it out my window and would love to run some fiber to replace this ridiculous bottleneck). In summery, very happy with it. It's proven extremely useful, and can make you think you're back home with a nice stable fast connection (coverage dependant). Also, it charges via a single USB C data/power port, what comes in the case is a USB A to USB C cable, and charging block which operates at 5V/2A. It has a removable and replaceable battery and a nice feature is its battery conservation mode (which you don't need to worry about from a connection continuity point of view) when you leave it plugged in for a sustained period.
I was extremely confused about how to set it up at first but then realized there actually is no set up unless you want to name your network, change the password, etc. The thing that's confusing until you figure it out (or read the manual but who does that :P) is that there's only one button to work the interface with and it's also how you power it on and off. Otherwise just charge it up and turn it on, and you're good to go. Shows the network name and password for both 2.5 and 5 on the screen as you click through the interface. It's literally that easy. Very pleased.
Just got this little awesome mobile router as a dedicated 'hotspot' device to use in the field when I'm away from home. That said, this little puppy has fast data throughput!,...as evidence of a speed test I performed while working in the field, on a given military base in Northern VA. To my surprised, this little puppy's D/L and U/L speeds are way faster than any cellphone hotspot connectivity I've ever used! We're talking 50+ - 60+ mbps D/L and 15+ - 18+ Mbps! The 4x4 MIMO kicks in Hard! The Night Hawk M1 is a solid device. Also, I recommended it to a friend's wife,..as a Christmas gift to her husband! I added a photo of my Nighthawk,...don't mind the 'gaffer's" tape,...as it's used to secure the TS-9 antennas. Perhaps a reverse SMA antenna connection would have been better! Here are a few concerns I would address: 1) User should be able to charge the device in "Off" mode. Currently, if the device is off, and the charger is inserted, the device will power on. 2) Should allow for a floating review screen. 3) Firmware update that allows for various on the fly changes in the processors speed,...which would allow for batter longevity even beyond 24 hours! The user would be able to select 50%, 75% 100% processor performance speeds. 4) TS-9 antennas (...it should come with 2 each)....I bought two of the Edgewood mini TS-9 antennas. They worked great for my use. (See photos)
I was sold a non-working device. Wouldn't stay powered on. It was never factory reset so I had to do that to default back to admin password. Code 1 error finally showed up after hours of trying to get it to work. It has a bad battery that won't charge. This device was never quality checked.
I have had this Nighthawk for 1 week now, I have been sent a New sim card, and a replacement device already. Not to mention no less than 10 calls to support lasting over 12 hours at this point only to STILL have this device NOT working!? It always says ,"Connected with No Internet", and has the blinking Blue light indicating it IS syncing with cell tower, I CAN connect to the Nighthawk .. it just ALWAYS says No internet, and no one can seem to make it work? Worst purchase I have made in a long time and expect to return soon .
