This particular tie out stake is well constructed; heavy duty and rust resistant. It was easy to pound into our yard and not difficult to remove. My dog weighs approximately 55#; maximum dog weight is 150#. We do not stake out while at home but we do stake my dog when camping. The areas we camp in frequently are mountainous with rocky soil; according to package information, the tie-out stake is “best for rocky or hard soils.” We'll keep the stake with us in our RV.
I got this for our great dane. She is 4 months old right now and about 60lbs and this stake is very sturdy. She is going to get up to 170lbs so I might have to get a larger one eventually, but this might be all we need as it doesn't seem to budge even when she is running and the cable stops her. I like that it lets her go in a circle without getting tangled. Very good quality. It's also easy to remove from the ground and move to a new spot, we have taken it on road trips and it works great for potty breaks.
I'd say you could chain a bear to this, but it is rated for dogs up to 150 pounds. I only use these if im traveling to any places which require containment (campgrounds, some friends or relatives, etc). This is a great design. The rod is 18" long, so be sure there is nothing buried and important where you drive it into the ground. Instructions are thorough.
This is a well made tie down stake. It's long so you can drive it deep into the ground making it sturdy to hold large dogs. Another great feature it has is that it's tangle free. So it gives a large area for the dog to be able to move around if you'd like.
I ordered this XL Dog stake to see if I could use it with my small dog (9lbs.). And yes, it works well. It stakes deeply with vanes (wings) to stabilize it. The stake penetrates the ground more than 16", and the hardware is sturdy. It's painted gray and seems as though it will weather without rusting. It will be interesting to see how the finish holds up with use and weather, especially at the moving parts' contact points.
This tie out stake is awesome. It's very thick metal that shouldn't bend very easily at all. It has 4 stabilizer bars that go in the ground that look like wings and the tie out ring is right on top to prevent tie outs from getting tangled up and twisted. This is a rust resistant stake that supports up to 150 pounds.
This heavy duty x-large tie- out stake is extremely durable. It's made well, heavy, and sturdy. It has exceeded my expectations. It's for dogs up to 150 pounds. It's rust resistant, the top is designed to prevent the cord from tangles and it worked well in both of my yards. One yard is soft, the other is harder.
We were looking for something that would secure our dog and give him some time outside while we were exercising nearby. This stake provides us with the security that he won't run away in the short time he is unattended. We work out for an hour with a trainer and our dog wants to be outside with us. He often runs circles around us and prevents us from exercising efficiently as we have to settle him down and attend to him. With him connected to the stake, we can monitor him and make sure he is not running around us or escaping the yard. The stake is easy to install in grass and it doesn't budge. It has worked well for us every week during our exercise session as we know our dog will be safe and settle nearby.
I mistakenly ordered the wrong size, this is for large dogs. My Gio only weighs in at 13 lbs, so a little big for him. This is a nice stake for taking with us in our rv. It's easy to drive into the ground (I used a hammer), it moved easily (the swivel )to follow my dog in which ever direction he wanted to go and no getting tangled. It's very sturdy and looking forward to rving with it. The color is a light grey and it comes with a red cap to cover the beveled end that goes into the ground when not in use. Sturdy, all in one and easy to swivel.
This is for the extra-large size tie-out for dogs up to 150 lbs. It's a heavy-duty device, made of heavy-weight metal, with stabilizer wings around the upper portion of the tie-out. It's painted, presumably because it probably would rust after a time and the paint would help mitigate that. I'm not convinced that it could hold a 100+ lb. dog that was really determined to get away, though; and definitely not for a Great Dane or English Mastiff. It's approximately 18" long in total, with the top 2 inches relegated to connect to a lead or cable. The tie-out did not arrive with a cable, so I had to improvise to try it out with a lunge lead. I don't believe its long enough to hold a dog of that size. Other tie-outs have a screw-like shape around the shaft, but this one simply pounds into the ground up to the neck of the device and relies upon the stabilizer wings to hold it in place. I believe you also need to take into account the type of soil you would be driving the device into. We have heavy clay soil - this type of soil holds a device such as this well enough when the ground is fairly dry. However, in heavy rain, the ground softens considerably and the tie-out pulls out rather easily. I would recommend this size for smaller dogs, say, up to 50 lbs. Even then, I think in the upper range approaching that weight limit I would be cautious.
