First of all, I want to comment on the previous person's review about where the 1/2 of water goes after she fills it up to the top. I noticed this as well, and I'm nearly 100% positive it goes into the machine. Bubbles go up in the water like it is going into another compartment where it takes the water from. Now on to my review, I purchased this because my 2 month old was coughing a bit and was quite stuffy after both my fiance and I had come down with the cold. My doctor told me to purchase a cool mist humidifier for the room. I was a bit hesitant about purchasing any humidifier from anywhere because of the pretty negative reviews, however I bit the bullet and purchased it, and I'm so happy I did. I have slept better, my son who sleeps with me sleeps better and my fiance sleeps better. I am stuffy when I go out into the living room and as soon as I go back into our room, my nose is cleared! I fill it up maybe once a day, sometimes twice because it is on, set to high 24:7, but who cares if you have to add water that much, seriously, it takes maybe 20 seconds to fill it up. It is a bit noisy on high, but I can't sleep without some kind of white noise (fan, a/c) so it doesn't bother me at all. It does the job of moistening the air perfectly, and I'm so glad I went with this purchase despite the bad reviews. You won't regret this purchase. Just a tip: If you have a stuffy son/daughter, my doctor suggested holding him/her right over the cool mist for a little bit. It seems to work great!
Have not yet tried the Vicks Med pack enclosed as a free sample but this should come in very handy this winter when someone in the family comes down with a cold. We bought two of the Humidifiers as replacements for our old ones and they are already running around the clock. They work really easy and we love the cool mist. It even smells fresh!
I bought this after borrowing one for a week from a family member. Since I had tried it out, I knew that it was a loud humidifier, but it does the job very well! I love that it doesn't leave a puddle of water on the ground after running through the night. My last 2 humidifiers have put out a lot of water, but it falls right to the ground and soaks the carpet. I love that you can easily clean the humidifier and that it is filter free. Family members have had this same humidifier for 3 and 1.5 years and they are still going strong. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it says it is a quiet machine, but is not.
I am a humidifier novice. This is my first and I've only had it for 24+ hours, but I'm happy with it. There is zero leakage, condensation, or hassle and it's very quiet. I do find it curious that when I fill the water tank to overflowing there is still a 1/2 inch of air at the top when I turn it right-side up. Today I ran it on high from 8:45 am to 7:15 pm. There was an 1 to 1 1/2 inches of air in the top when I started and 1/2 an inch of water in the tank when I stopped, so I'd say it would run on high for a complete 12 hours, though it really does have to be level to work properly. I live in a one room apartment and had to make several adjustments to accomplish that. I don't want to go into the myriad of small physical inconveniences this humidifier appears to be rectifying; I'll just say I'm sleeping better than I have in twenty years. It works for me.
I was disappointed that the sound out the machine was noisy. It is almost as loud as a fan. We had one right before this that was completely silent, so getting one that makes such a racket was upsetting. The look of it is very sleek and pretty. It also has a Vicks Dispense spot which is nice and I lik ehow the water filters through it. But the vapor that comes out is less steamy and doesn't seem to fill the air like others we've owned. Over all we would not re buy this or recommend it to others.
I am new to the humidifier world. I got this for our living room and the starry night for my daughters room. While the one in my daughters room is nice this one is loud, annoying, and not worth it. It has 3 settings and is only tolerable in "sleep" mode. If you dont mind the sound of a small generator (maybe somebody older that already has to turn the tv up.....and I mean that as no disrespect merely an example), then it may work since it does put out noticeable moisture.
I always read reviews from other purchasers online before making the purchase myself, and I was on the fence with this one, but went ahead and bought it anyway. At first, the volume level of the fan didn't bother me, but after 2 weeks of use it got MUCH louder and had the most annoying rattle I've ever heard, which no matter what I did would not stop. It was like the fan was rattling plastic parts internally. Also, if you plan to run this 24/7 as we did, it left a white dust/film on all of our solid cherry bedroom furniture, as well as all over the windows. In the end we took it back and I ended up purchasing an Ultrasonic version through a different manufacturer.
We got this humidifier with high hopes but only used it for one night. The next morning, our daughters room carpet all around it was soaked wet. Returned it the following day!
so yes it is filter free but you cant clean the area near the fan where after time dust and such build up and you cant remove enough parts to clean it. I have had mine for only 6 months. I have cleaned the tray every week like I am supposed to and now in an area you cant get to is now making the room smell of mold. I would never spend my money on this again. This is supposed to be a money savor since you don't have to buy the filters ever again, but what isn't explained is that you cant clean it properly to be able to use it for ever like you should. I now get to throw this away and try another humidifier.
this has got to be the loudest machine i have every had. even the night setting sounds like a mixer on low speed. I returned one to walmart because i thought it was broken. the new one sounds just as bad. I am glad i am a sound sleeper, but this even wakes me up. You put the vapor pad in and it does not heat enough to smell it. I love vicks products and will continue to try to buy from them just not this product.
