Great Mobile Hotspot for On the Go !

Purchased this item for when we go out of town. Have only used it a few times and so far so good! Signal Strength has been very good! Features displayed on the device are very clear and precise ... and the item is small and compact enough to fit in your pocket or purse. As for the Instructions: They do say that you have to activate the device, but they don't specify that you have to call in Support to do this. I wasted a lot of time trying to activate the device myself. Activation is a lengthy process, so expect to be on the phone for a while, but their Support personal appear to be very knowledgeable in going through the process ... I would diffidently recommend this item to a friend.

I love this device its works great.I bought it for my wife tablet and so for I have no regrets.I live in an area that is a hard to get service, and it works super.I bought it with a $20 plan and I have no conplaints as yet.The only only negative I incounter was when I tried to activate it myself.Maybe it was because I'm not that with the tablet but I could not do it.I had to call customer service and it was done with no problem.

I have deep sixed my DSL and said no to Cable broadband! A stick would work just fine if it was only my devices, but I can connect up to five devices at a time with no loss of speed. The only 3G device we have is my daughter's phone and she has a plan that gives her a lot of phone data time, so it's augmented by what is available through Virgin Mobile. Only $35 a month for service just as fast through cable or DSL and pay approximately $50 for, that is to get the speed I require. Now, I realize it's network is not perfect, but I can pretty much take this where ever I go, making more use of my tablet without having to use a public HotSpot. I don't know what more to say. This has met all of my needs and expectations. In fact, it has surpassed.

Took this on a trip to Arizona. Was able to access the internet in places that other people with AT&T devices had no access. Haven't get been connected to a 4G area but the 3G is normally pretty fast. Connection to the internet from startup is pretty fast.

Coverage Area

Reviewed in the USA on 2013-08-01T17:00:00

My complaint is not with the product, but with Virgin Mobile's reported coverage area. Their map reported that I was in a 4G area. I checked multiple times before ordering the product (note: I am near a Verizon's tower and get a 4G signal). I booted up the devise and it is set default to a 3G signal. I had to go in and change it to 4G only and it could not see the tower. I changed the setting to 4G preferred with the same results. I went to the Virgin Mobile website for assistance and found that they use Sprint towers. I then went to Sprint.com and checked their coverage maps and found that this area is a 2 & 3G area. Obviously Virgin Mobile is old data for their coverage maps. I returned the product without initializing it since I purchased it solely for the 4G access. If you are interested in this product you must double check the coverage area using the Sprint website.

Poor Data Speeds on Sprint Network

Sprint already has an overloaded 3G network. Now, you take Virgin Mobile, a spin-off of Sprint, route data access thru some virtual network, and it makes data speeds even slower. Virgin Mobile definately had a lower priority on Sprint towers. Although I got 5 bars of signal, my data speeds were pathetic, never reaching over about 400kbps (on 3G). WIMAX (4G) is so scarce its only in heavily populated metro areas, and averaged about 3mbps. Although coverage maps will show you have "excellent coverage", beware, data speeds will be slow. This was only a backup device, but still, too slow to do maps/navigation, and forget about streaming video as they use some kind of "adaptive video protocol", which basically slows video down with lots of buffering.

Not for regular Internet streaming

This device is only good for light browsing. Heavy content streaming doesn't work well at all. The bandwidth is not strong enough to support Netflix over a smart TV or Apple TV. However Hulu did work. This is much slower than any other cable or DSL connection. The data package is $55 for 6GB. There is no unlimited package. 6GB a month goes very fast and you are forced to pay another month if you want to browse further. So to sum it up, do not buy this of you like to see movies or videos online.
