Good for introducing the young ones to astronomy and microscopy. Don't expect much of the optics, but for the price, it's a good enough "toy" to get them started. If they become really interested, then that's the time to upgrade to something better (and more expensive) optics. This will suffice for us now as it serves our purpose for the moment.

Please bear in mind that I'm only commenting on the telescope itself, the microscope I had no interest in whatsoever and I honestly haven't even taken it out of the box. I bought this telescope specifically to see just how bad it is from what little information I could find about it, and while it is pretty bad it's not anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. This thing is made of cheap plastic and feels like it's held together by prayers, the way it hooks onto the tiny tripod you can't actually move the telescope from left to right... you have to move the entire thing. The up and down motion however is very smooth and stays where you want it when you let it go allowing for easy focusing. It comes with 3 eyepieces that I'm assuming are specific to this particular telescope. 20X, 30X and 40X. So if you have another telescope that uses 1.25" eyepieces, they aren't going to work here and vice-versa. The magnification is decent considering the tiny size of the thing (the bigger the diameter, the more light gets in and the better image you're going to get. This is a very tiny telescope), though I can't see much of a difference between the 30X and 40X eyepieces to be honest. This is made more for terrestrial viewing, like looking at birds or cityscapes. I brought it outside the other night and looked at the moon through it, and while you're not going to get the awesome shots of the moon you typically imagine with a telescope it didn't do too badly all things considered. I could get it centered up in the eyepiece very easily and it looked just fine. While I can get decent views of Jupiter and 4 of it's moons in my other telescopes, through this there just isn't enough to it to really see any details. To the naked eye Jupiter is just a bright orange point in the sky. The only thing this telescope did was make that bright orange point slightly more round and planet-like. As far as viewing things here on the ground, I pointed it at various random things like treetops and some transformers some blocks away and it, again, did just fine for what it is. I could easily make out the numbers on the side of the transformer and make out individual leaves on the trees and anything that was in them. All of the optics are made of plastic, so they're not the best in the world by any means. But in my case, I HAVE a really good telescope. But I don't want the kids messing with a telescope I paid a boatload of money for by themselves. So I'm going to specifically save this one back for them to bring out and be able to use by themselves. But that's only because I happen to have the thing. As I said, I got this thing because I wanted to see how bad it is. I was very surprised by it, it works perfectly fine for what it is... but I still wouldn't recommend it as a cheap telescope. Check out the related products if you want something that only costs a little more while providing a LOT more bang for the buck. There are other ones available, but those are the two that I have direct experience with.

I bought two of these, one for my niece and the other for my daughter. I figured for the price it'd be a good starter telescope. Unfortunately because of the cheap price its a very cheaply made telescope. It was extremely hard to view thru no matter what we did. The tripod is not easy to adjust and not very sturdy. Big disappointment.

The quality of this product is very poor. It really does not work, I tried looking out of this product. You cant see anything through the liens of the product. I thought it would be fine as a start kit for myself and my grandchildren to look outside. Junk!

I got this for my daughter for Christmas...... Both telescope and microscope are awful. Not worth the $20.00 spent. I wouldn't buy this again if my life depended on it. Packaging was flimsy. Telescope is cheap plastic and can't see anything out of it. Tripod is super short, My CHILD would have to lay on the ground to see out of it. Microscope came missing pieces and the battery size written on product is wrong. Needs AA not AAA as specified. Have to hit microscope to make light come on. DO NO BUY!!!!!!!!

This set is poorly made and easy to damage. Not a good starter kit for children. Items were missing like the mirror for the microscope. The telescope is very lightweight and is unstable even on the tripod. Would not recommend this set.
