I won't risk my vehicle's electrical system or electronics on a cheap mod sine inverter. I own a macbook pro and there is no Apple approved car charger so this is the only way to go mobile.
Bought this to use for charging power tools and batteries, as well as laptop use. So far it has performed very well, charging up everything I need, and running the laptop as though it was plugged into the grid. Since none of the alarms (overvoltage, undervoltage etc) have been put to use, I can't comment on those, except to say that might be a good sign. Overall an excellent value.
Works great in my RV. Runs my TV with a clear picture and runs the DVD player fine. I also use it to power my laptop and it will run all the items at the same time.
This is a true sine wave inverter at a great price. My only issue is it was shipped with the blister package slit open. The unit was scratched, but worked properly. It was obviously a returned item. I was expecting new.
Power seems perfectly clean as I have noticed no difference between running my laptop PC on power supplied from this unit, PC battery, or house AC. Unit generates a fair amount of heat but I haven't had any problem with heat overload. Unit has an internal cooling fan that generates an acceptable amount of noise. Like other units this size/shape, it is difficult to find a good spot for it in my vehicle. It did generate some interference with FM radio reception in one vehicle I tried this in but it went away, or largely so, by putting it into the center arm console of the vehicle. I didn't notice any such interference when using it in my primary vehicle. Unfortunately the unit stops outputting power when I stop and restart my vehicle, and there is no indication it has done so other than my PC shows it is on battery power rather than AC power. To restore power flow I have to unplug and replug in my PC to the unit and/or turn off and unplug the unit, then plug it back in and turn on again to restore power flow. The product description for this unit on the Walmart website said at the time of my purchase, as well as today....10/26/13...that the unit has two AC outlets but it only has one. The image of the product is representative. The product arrived a bit grungy looking but cleaned up well. The product's label/badge (on top of the unit) was askew but easily removed and properly positioned so as to not look like flawed merchandise. I appreciated all the product info for this unit on the Walmart website, as well as a link to the full owner's manual. This is something I didn't see provided for the other units I was considering buying.
I carefully connected it to a 12 volt battery, with no load on the inverter. It ran a few seconds and then it sparked in the on/off switch. I was not able to turn it on after that. I noticed that when I turned it on for the first time that the switch was stiff and did not want to turn on. It remain hard to turn on or off. I returned it to my local walmart.
I purchased this to use for LED TV in my camp trailer. Pure Sine is supposed to provide clean power to your devices. There was alot of interference causing line in the TV. They are not there when running off Generator. I sent it back for a refund. I would save yourself the hassel.
