So many friends have congratulated me on my Weber. I keep hearing how well it endures over the years. Since getting this Weber a month ago as a gift, I've been grilling every weekend . I always look forward to experimenting with new techniques and recipes and then sharing a great meal with loved ones. It's now the center of my social life!
Own it for about two years, it's a well done product with a fantastic warranty and a tremendous customer service. After countless bbqs and grillings some of its components were destroyed, but the 5-year warranty includes everything so they sent me a new set of the cleaning system and a charcoal grate, now it looks brand new again.
Have been using this for the last few weeks. Good temperature management, good quality build and just the right size. The only addition i wish it had would be some kind of a hook for the top drill to hang, while I add more or reorganise the charcoal.
A great little grill as is but very versatile and upgradable too, just like all current Weber kettles. Had a Smokey Joe Platinum since around 2005 for camping but it had an airflow issue that prevented temps from getting good and hot unless the lid was off or cracked. Great for smoking but had limits in grilling. This fixes that and as a bonus, it has legs. Ordered an ash catcher as the shallow pan is just a mess, especially if it's windy or rains.
Hands down, my favorite grill. Simple to use, just the right Cooking space for our needs, easy cleanup for the ashes just dump into my metal ash bucket and scrape the grates, I’m done. I also have a 22 premium for bigger jobs and a Joe which is always amazing.
Works in all weather conditions, grills smokes. Combined with Weber char baskets a reliable almost bomb proof kettle
I found this grill at the curb around the corner and up the street from me last Fall and spent the Winter refurbishing it (the neighbor upgraded to a 22-inch Weber model of some sort). I had to buy a new bottom vent/ash cleaner (#7443), which was very corroded, and a new food grate (also corroded and pitted), which I was going to do anyway - I wanted one with hinged sides, for replenishing charcoal (#7433). Since then, I've also bought a little Weber tool hook that hangs on the side and holds four tools (#7401), an apron (#6533) and gloves (#6535), the three-piece tool set (spatula, tongs, and fork)(#6630), a wire brush (#6493) and another manufacturer's steel wool-type brush (recommended by "America's Test Kitchen" but the "Primal Grill" guy likes the Weber style, with the bristles secured in "twisted wire" so you don't get steel bristles on your food), and a set of charcoal baskets (#7403). I have been having a lot of fun grilling things this past Summer. The 18-inch is perfect for just two people. I would like an 18-inch food grate with a removable center, like the 22-inch Gourmet BBQ System grate has, so I could use a round-bottom wok. I've got my eye on the 22-inch Performer #15401001, more grill than I need . . . but I want one!
I purchased this grill to fill in until our new outdoor kitchen is done. I put it together in the time allowed (30 min) and only had to take it apart once to rotate the base to the legs. The instructions are pretty vague and leave out several important instructions. The legs, wheels and dampers are very thin metal and not good quality. However the body, the top and the grill grate are pretty heavy duty and well made. It does cook pretty well and the heat is even if done properly
Compared to my first Weber Kettle of 30+ years (and still used), the tray for ashes and handles have improved. The new lid is noticeably lighter weight, but unsure that is an improvement. The new kettle was not consistent in temperature (as evidenced by the food being cooked), and I'm thinking it was the change in lid, as I've been cooking with charcoal for the years noted. Some issues with assembling. Two legs were difficult to insert. Used WD40, which helped. Also, one of the clips (to insert into the leg) was too long for the machined hole. The first kettle I received was damaged, but received excellent customer service for a replacement.
This 18 inch grill lacks the quality of the 22 in grill I had used for many years. The 4 kettle tabs that hold up the food grill are so poorly designed, and the grill diameter too small, that the grill nearly flips out of the kettle when you try and clean it. The food grill diameter is 17.5 in. and increasing it to 17.75 would help.
